Random Act of Kindness
February 17 is Random Act of Kindness Day. Rotarians should wear Rotary gear and spread extra kindness out into the world. No gesture is too big or small. We will share some of our experiences at the February 20th meeting during “Fun and Frolic.”
Some ideas for how to spread kindness…
Visit a nursing home and sit with some residents
Serve at a homeless shelter
Volunteer at your local hospital or church
Buy some flowers and give them to an elderly neighbor
Buy someone lunch or coffee that you don't know
Give a gift card to a family in need
Hold open the door for someone in a store or office
Babysit for free
Send a "Thank You" note to someone who has helped you in the past
Bring donuts to work
Read to children in your local library
Help someone cross the street
Deliver some coloring books to sick children in the local hospital
Clean the driveway or sidewalk for an elderly neighbor
36th Annual Big Wheel Night - April 22
The Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn Big Wheel night is celebrating it’s 36th annual event in April. Please join us on the evening of April 22 at 6:30 at the Glen Oak Country Club for an unforgettable night of fun! Tickets are $150/person. Your support through attendance and/or donation provides the majority of the funding for our community grants and scholarships. Thank you in advance for continuing to make Big Wheel a success!
Club Challenge - 36 for 36!
For this 36th year, it would be great if 36 more people attended this year than last year.
How could we make this happen??? Buy a table and invite your friends and family! Ask your colleagues to attend and make it a fun night out! Have a neighbor couple you keep meaning to connect with? Invite them to Big Wheel! If we all invited one other couple or friend to attend, we would easily meet this challenge! Let’s do it!
New this Year - Rotary on the Road
President Penny Belke is trying something new this year. As a way to engage members and to encourage new connections in the community, the club now hosts one meeting a month in the evening. The meetings are social in nature and provide extended time for fellowship and introductions to Rotary. If you are not always able to make the Thursday noon meetings, come see us out in the community in the evening and bring a friend! Light refreshments are served.
Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs Come Together to Provide Food for Kids
Eight members of the Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn and six members of the Kiwanis Club of Central DuPage and Glen Ellyn came together last month and packed backpacks with food. The intention is to provide some basic food for Glen Ellyn school children on the weekend. They receive meals at school during the week but may not have enough on weekends.
In addition, during the summer, the Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn joins with the Glen Ellyn Public library as partners to continue to help provide food for kids when school is out for summer break. Some of the food is paid for by the cooperating clubs and some comes from the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Thank you to all for fighting hunger in our community.
Want to learn more about Rotary?
A great way to meet other Rotarians and learn more about the club is to attend the upcoming district conference, April 24 and 25. All Rotarians are invited!
Among the speakers -- Fred Luskin, Stanford Forgiveness Project Director and recent keynote speaker at the Rotary Peace Conference; -- Randy Lewis, who launched disability hiring initiatives and is recognized as developing "the gold standard" of disability employment opportunities; -- Ramesh Ferris, a polio survivor who has taken the End Polio Now message to many dignitaries including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and his Holiness the Dalia Lama.
