A Note from Principal Curran

Updates from Thorpe Creek Elementary March 2022

Dear Thorpe Creek Families,

This week our 3rd grade students will take the state required IREAD-3 reading assessment. IREAD-3 is an online, multiple choice test that measures foundational reading standards through grade 3. There are three components to this test:

  • Word Recognition, Fluency, and Vocabulary Development

Identifying beginning, middle, and ending sounds, identifying synonyms and antonyms and using context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words in a text

  • Comprehension and analysis of nonfiction and informational text

Comparing and responding to grade-level informational text by making connections and/or predictions while reading and identifying important information within text

  • Comprehension and analysis of literacy text

Comparing and responding to grade-level literacy text by recalling and/or describing story elements and identifying the theme and narrator of different literacy genres

Our third grade students are ready and will do well on this assessment! Do your best, 3rd graders! You've got this!

Fourth Graders Will Visit Their Intermediate Schools in May

Fourth grade students will visit Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate (HIJH), Fall Creek Intermediate (FCI), or Sand Creek Intermediate (SCI) during the school day with their teachers and classmates on Monday, May 9th. Your child will attend the school that is their home school for next year. Students will travel by school bus.

Parents and guardians are invited to visit their child's intermediate school on Thursday, May 12th at 6:30 p.m. This evening is for adults only.

Families do not need to enroll their child in the intermediate school (nor will you need to enroll in junior high or high school). Once your child has been enrolled in HSE Schools, they remain enrolled and will transition from grade level to grade level within the school system, including transitioning to new campuses.

PTO Move-A-Thon

A very BIG THANK YOU for supporting our PTO's primary fundraiser, the spring Move-a-thon! Your donations will help fund learning opportunities throughout TCE.

New this year, our PTO is investing in a student-led project to enhance our TCE Nature Space - our National Blue Ribbon School legacy project. Third grade students have reached out to Ball State's Landscape Architecture Department for guidance and a potential partnership to help bring their ideas to life. This project will be on-going through 2023. Stay tuned for updates and pictures of our learning!
