Fall Conferences

We again would like to thank the families who attend conferences this fall. All together our staff held nearly 450 conferences with our core teachers averaging 16 conferences each. While we are pleased with our numbers we would like to reach even more families. For those "veterans" of Franklin Middle School conferences we returned to the old format with the online scheduler. We would appreciate feedback about conferences as we continue to look for ways to improve the way we work with our families.

Receipts, Receipts, Receipts

We're approaching the Holiday season. This means many of you will be hosting family and friends for breakfast, brunches, lunches, and dinners. We would appreciate, if you shop at Hy-Vee, to save your receipts and bring them into the main office. Annually we are receive a monetary award based on the dollar amount of receipts we collect.

Your help is great appreciated.

Dance Marathon

Money Mash

The main reason for Dance Marathon is to raise money for children battling cancer at the University of Iowa's Children's Hospital. Besides the dance and bake sale held during the week, homerooms were engulfed in a Money Mash battle this week.

Congratulations to the following homerooms who were our Money Mash winners! Ms. Davies period six took first place with $100.33. Ms. Mead’s class finished in second place with $76.40 and Mr. Rehn’s class took third place with $72.68.

Students (& Staff) Love Spirit Week

We've had a wonderful week of participation with Dance Marathon Week. We worked to build awareness by doing theme days with our students and staff. Many of you were probably aware as your students rummaged through their closets, or maybe yours, to find clothes that would work for the day.

Monday: PJ Day

Tuesday: Twin Day

Wednesday: Neon Day

Thursday: Throwback Day

Friday: Spirit Day

It's important for us, even during this type of week, to continue to stress academics. In some cases this could be difficult. We were very proud of the way our students approached the week. It was a way for staff and students to bond together with simple theme days. Knowing that our students can handle the fun along with the academics will help as we plan more days later on in the year.

I've included some pictures below. If you'd like to see more pictures please go to our Facebook page.

Mission of Hope

Part of the Franklin 8th grade year is to concentrate on giving back to the community. One way we give back is to prepare and serve lunch to the homeless at the Mission of Hope. On Wednesday, November 4th, we had four adult volunteers and 25 students go to the Mission and serve lunch. The students brought along canned goods, and travel size shampoos to give to the Mission. Three of the girls worked in the Clothing section to help straighten the clothing. Some washed dishes, others served. I watched as students helped an elderly lady with a walker maneuver with her tray to eat. Others with young children were assisted by our students. What a great learning opportunity for our students.

Listed below are the dates for this year's concerts. Directors have sent information out addressing the specifics of the concert. We would appreciate all audience members in their seats for the start of the concert. Since students will be staying the duration of the concert we would like all audience to stay seated in between groups. We're excited that the audience will witness the growth our students make from one year to the next.

Important Note: Please plan to arrive early to ensure a parking spot and to catch the start of the concert. If the weather cooperates we will open up the grass area located near the north parking lot.

Want to support Franklin? Check out our page that has information about our Friends of Franklin. We are extremely appreciative for the amount of support that our PTA has provided us. If you've seen our video announcement system in the school it was made partially possible because of the PTA purchasing 4 TVs.
