A message from the Superintendent
Weekly Communication
Wednesday, October 19, 2022
Greetings PV Families,
Conversations about school safety are ongoing and we continue to consider the steps we can take as a district to make safety as strong as possible for our students, staff, and community. A major step taken recently is the expansion of our security team to consist of PVSD employees in addition to contracted individuals. Beginning next week, each of our elementary schools will have its own dedicated security staff member, while the middle schools will host one security person during the day and another one after school hours. The high school will continue to have several security staff members during the school day as well as after due to their student enrollment and the number of activities that take place in the facility.
Our secondary students are used to seeing security personnel in and around their buildings on a daily basis, however, the elementary students are not. I wanted you to be aware of this new presence and to be able to provide your child with additional information if needed. Our principals and teachers will also share information to facilitate positive relationships between our students and these new staff members.
Enjoy the beautiful colors of Fall!
Sincerely,
Dr. Barbara A. Russell

Educational Equity Task Force
The District strives to provide all students with a rigorous educational experience and extra-curricular opportunities that serve to secure a commitment to school, showcase talents, and promote academic success. PV is also working diligently to nurture inclusive school communities and ensure students feel a sense of belonging.
In an effort to strengthen these areas, administration is creating a task force to develop an action plan based on the language in Policy 832. This policy, entitled Educational Equity, serves to guide the District's work in the area of providing equitable academic experiences, opportunities and student success. The action plan that results from the work will be presented to the Board of School Directors prior to June 2023.
We welcome your voice! Our desire is to create a diverse task force that consists of a variety of stakeholder representatives, teachers, administrators, support staff, students, parents, community, and business representatives. If you are interested in being a part of this work, please use this form to indicate your interest. The task force will meet several times over the course of this school year, in-person, during evening hours, beginning in November. Stay tuned for details!
Free Breakfast Program for ALL Students
As a reminder, Governor Tom Wolf announced free school breakfast for all students across the commonwealth. The Universal Free Breakfast Program will run through the end of the 2022-23 school year.
We are aware that some families may prefer that their students not participate in the free breakfast at school (in some instances last year, students were eating two breakfasts - one at home prior to school and one after arriving at school). Families may choose to “opt their child(ren) out” from obtaining breakfast using this form. If a family opts out, the student’s account will be flagged and breakfast will not be available to them. You may change this preference at any time by contacting our FS department.
