SIXTH FORM

FROM THE HEADS OF SIXTH FORM

In Year 13 nearly half of the students have sent in their UCAS applications and most of those have offers already. Mr Giles hopes the rest of the year will follow suit as soon as possible if they wish to go to university next academic year.

Following the revision intervention session at lunchtime on Thursday, all students are aware they should now have a revision timetable in place for their exams in December. Mrs Rogers and Mr Giles will be very happy to go through any plans brought to them to check that they are sensible and achievable.

All students are urged to make a start on their revision this weekend if they have not yet begun as there are only three weeks until exams start.

REMEMBRANCE SERVICE

Our Sixth Form students and staff appreciated the opportunity to remember all those who have lost their lives in past conflicts. It was a very thoughtful assembly led by Mr Bevis with contributions from all areas of the school. Our thanks to Alaistair Roberts-Rhodes who played the 'Last Post' faultlessly and at short notice.

BIOLOGY TRIP TO WARWICK UNIVERSITY

The Year 12 and 13 Biologists made the long trip to Warwick Arts Centre at Warwick University this Monday. They had the opportunity to listen to 5 lectures from Biologists who are at the top of their field in genetics and DNA. By far the favourite was Dr Kevin Fong who delivered a fascinating talk on ‘Life, death and the limits of the human body’, with one student stating the journey was worth his talk alone and another that she intended to hot foot it to the Senior Girls library the following morning to take out the copy of his book. They also enjoyed a thought provoking presentation on De-extinction. The trip had the bonus of being held on the Warwick University Campus so that they could experience an open campus university, which included sampling lunch in the students union.

CAREERS EVENT FOR YEAR 12 PARENTS

This new event put on for parents by Mrs Rogers proved to be a great success for those who attended. Feedback showed that parents welcolmed the opportunity to find out more about how students are being prepared to investigate careers and training opportunities. Being able to use the information programmes at home will help them to support their child as they try to shape their future.

It was very much a 'two-way' evening as parents have offered expertise and work experience for some of the students.
