Stanwood Middle School
Family Message - September 11th, 2021
Good morning Stanwood Middle School Families!
PTO FUNDRAISER
This Monday we kick off the cookie dough fundraiser. It couldn't be easier this year! Please check out the flier your Spartan brings home on Monday afternoon (picture below) and help our PTO fund all of the various projects they do throughout the year. From t-shirts to birthday treats, our PTO is AMAZING--check out their facebook page!
FREE T-SHIRTS PROVIDED BY OUR PTO FOR 6TH GRADERS AND NEW STUDENTS!
One of the things our wonderful PTO provides is free t-shirts for our incoming 6th graders and all new students. These will be handed out next week. Our PTO has done this for 8 consecutive years for our students. A big thank you to our PTO! There is a picture below of this year's shirt!
PLEASE RETURN EMERGENCY FORMS
On Thursday, your Spartan brought home information for you--please return the emergency form so we can update your information. You only need to return the Release of Directory Information if you do not want your child in the yearbook.
PICTURE DAY--FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17
Picture packets went home on Thursday as well. Picture day is Friday, September 17.
LOCKERS
We have the green light to assign lockers this year. Students who want a locker will receive one this week during Advisory.
PATRIOT DAY
In honor of Patriot Day, the leadership class would like our Spartans to show their patriotic pride by wearing red, white, and blue on Monday. Sixth graders wear red, seventh graders wear white, and eighth graders wear blue.
YMCA BUS
Our bus to the YMCA has started. Students must bring a parent note (or have parents call the office) to get a pass for the bus. This will be a permanent pass and only one note or phone call is needed.
STUDENT PICK UP LIINE INFORMATION
Please make sure if you are picking up students in our East parking lot that you pull all the way forward and that we only have one row of cars. We used two rows to get the busses through on the first day of school, but this is not something we typically do. Because we have so many students being picked up this year we will have to utilize parking spots before pulling into the pickup line to make sure there is enough room and we are not blocking the main road. We really appreciate your help as we work through this at the beginning of the year!
WATER BOTTLES
Our wonderful PTO helped by paying to have water bottle filling stations placed around the school a few years ago. Please have your student bring their refillable water bottles to school and use them often.
Stanwood-Camano School District Connectivity Survey
Please see the link located later in this Family Message for this survey from the District. In an effort to ensure that all students and families have internet access for extended learning opportunities and off-site learning occurrences, please respond to the survey. This survey will help inform us of resource needs.
Please contact us if you have any questions, 360.629.1350.
Have a great weekend!

Hello Families,
We sent a message to Families, Staff and Community Members this week. We intend to be transparent with you about our process for managing COVID cases and our district COVID case rate. You can check this link to review COVID cases county by county and within our district. Both of these dashboards are updated weekly. We will use both of these data points to make decisions about safety and the addition or removal of safety measures in our schools.
Given the increasing rate of case counts in Snohomish County, we are reiterating the importance for students and staff to wear masks while on campus, per our previous communication. Additionally, an emphasis on social distancing is needed. As students return to school and move across campus in groups, we will be diligent in reminding students to maintain a social distance of 3 ft. from each other.
Back-to-School Celebrations
Thank you for your patience as we navigated the first several days of school. As we instituted bus routes, new lunch routines and ways to move around campus, we learned a lot! This year’s start of school has brought with it the need to re-think our typical routines and structures.
That said, we saw some BIG things to celebrate! We watched 1st graders navigating their first “real” school lunchtime at Twin City Elementary. First graders were learning how to line up, choose white or chocolate milk, and sit distanced at their assigned lunch tables. There was a lot of curiosity and excitement during the first week of lunch for these students. Middle school students spent a lot of time outside these past few days. We saw school tours, advisory classes and mask breaks that allowed students to enjoy learning in the sun and get to know their classmates while outdoors. Finally, drop off and pick up at the high school is improving. If you were there the first day of school, you know what a BIG feat it was to manage the arrival of students by bus and car. This is the first time the high school had ALL students arrive for school at the same time.
Chromebooks
If your student still has a Chromebook at home from last year, we ask that they return it to their current school as soon as possible. Chromebooks that have not been turned in have been disabled and are not operational. We would like to refresh these devices and reissue an updated Chromebook to your student.
Bus Passes
We are postponing the practice of bus passes for the time being. Every effort is being made to ensure buses are safe and not overcrowded for students assigned to them.
Seeking Bus Drivers!
We need you! The district is seeking outstanding applicants to fill new and existing positions in the district. We would love our families and community members to consider applying for jobs in the Stanwood-Camano School District. We would like to highlight the need for bus drivers! Our transportation team provides all of the necessary training and certifications to become a bus driver. If you are interested please contact Lisa Orton at LOrton@stanwood.wednet.edu. The District provides competitive wages and benefits packages for positions over 630 hours per year. Please go to the district’s employment page to apply.
Please contact the district human resources department at 360-629-1200 for help with the application process.
Reminders from the District
As we return from summer break and resume in-person learning we are all "relearning our boundaries", including distancing and consistent mask wearing. This is a reminder that masks must be a manufactured paper mask or a tightly woven, two-layer fabric mask, worn over the mouth and nose. If water droplets could readily flow through a mask, it is not a sufficient barrier. The following link provides more information about selecting an appropriate face covering.
