Welcome back to our last term for the year.

From my perspective, it is good to be back, after being on leave for Term 3. Once again, I would like to thank Karyn Sadler for stepping into the Principal’s role so capably and to the rest of the Senior Leadership Team who took on extra responsibilities for the term.

We hope all students enjoyed the break and are now fully focused on the term ahead. This is a short term. In effect, students in Years 11 to 13 finish classroom tuition in two weeks and only come into school after that for their NCEA exams and revision help. For students in Years 7 to 10, this is an eight- week term; all students finish school on Friday 9 December.

We hope that senior students have been putting in the mahi in preparation for the NCEA exams. The practice exams being held this week will give a good indication as to where they are at in their

preparation. For any students who may have not be achieving at the level that they had hoped for, due to delays in their revision programme or other interruptions, I urge you to use the remaining time effectively. We cannot go back and undo the past, we only have the present to work with; please use it wisely.

Congratulations to those students and teams who continue to get involved in the wider community,

either through sport, arts or social activities. Over the term break we have had students participating in speech, music and dance competitions, our Year 9 & 10 cricket team performed admirably in Hawke’s Bay and some of our senior students are currently part of a dance team competing in the National Young Performer Awards in Palmerston North. It is great to see students developing the gifts they have been given and living life to the full.

As we prepare to farewell our student leaders for 2022, we take a moment to reflect on all the successes and challenges our students have faced during their time at Campion College. We extend a very warm welcome to all members of our community to join in our end of year senior celebrations.

Today, Friday 21st October at 9.45am, our Whakairo Impact Project Rōpū unveiled their impact piece in the library. Their piece is named:

Ko Te Mana O Kapiana - He Tohu Maumaharatanga

The Prestige Of Campion - A Symbol Of Remembrance

This has been the culmination of 18 months of work every Friday under the guidance and direction of Master Carver and Ngā Mahi Toi expert – Matua Simon Lardelli.

The students not only completed the physical work of carving, painting and completing the mural piece but undertook significant, dedicated research to ensure they captured the essence and legacy of St Edmund Campion and other significant people associated with our college. We congratulate the Whakairo Impact Project students for their mahi, commitment and enthusiasm to this kaupapa.

Our kapa haka rōpū performed a stirring haka during the unveiling.

This week's school exams were a great opportunity for students to experience exam conditions and gauge areas of strength and challenges for the upcoming NZQA external exams. Results for these exams will be emailed to students and whānau on Thursday.

NZQA External Examinations begin on Monday, 7 November and there are some important things for our students to remember:

* Students should carefully check the examination timetable and their admission slip to ensure they know the date and time of each exam.

* Students need to ensure they have all the correct equipment for each exam, including a charged device if it is a digital exam, calculators and rulers.

* Students must wear correct school uniform.

Students will be given their admission slips on Monday 31 October. If there are any issues, including errors or omissions, students are to see Mrs Sadler. Please see the timetable below and make note of the dates.

The YMCA are offering free lunchtime workouts for our female students. Students in Years 9-13 who are keen for a bit of movement to music, please come to our school gym on Tuesday and Thursday of Week 2 for a fun and free 30 minute workout. Please be changed and ready to go by 1:00pm on these days.

Congratulations to Tyler Thomas who performed exceptionally well in the Gisborne Speech and Drama Competitions. Tyler took home $239 in winnings and achieved seven first placings, two second places, one commendation and a massive five trophies. Congratulations, Tyler! He rawe koe!

Our cricket team and their supporters experienced some great Hawkes Bay weather at the Hawkes Bay cricket tournament during the holidays. After a loss to St Pat's Town, the team came back to win against Hutt International Boys' School and St Bernard's College. Well done, team!

Fr Tovio wishes to start an RCIA programme in our Parish in December. This programme is designed to enable a person to become a fully participating member of the Catholic Church. If you have anyone in mind who would be interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith or would like to become a Catholic, please contact the parish office at 68677224.

Send your Spirit upon our students and fill them with your wisdom and blessings.

Grant that they may devote themselves to their studies and draw ever closer to you, the source of all knowledge.

As some of our students embark on their last days at Campion College, we ask you to be with them, guiding and encouraging them as they prepare to forge a new path.
