Pine Island Parent Press
November 2019
From the Principal's Desk....
We are definitely in the swing of things here at Pine Island. The classrooms are full of activity with the students busy learning new and exciting things. Take a moment to enjoy the changes of the season with your child. Parent involvement in your child's education is the number one factor for your child's school success. You are encouraged to become an active member in our school community. If you can spare time to assist in your child's classroom, help with our PTO, or any other support, we would greatly appreciate it! Let's work together to make this year the best over!!

Service Projects
This year you will see a variety of service projects that our students will be participating in. Young people can grow from an understanding of how they fit into society to how they can help solve societal problems. This developmental process grows empathy and fosters children's identities as engaged citizens. In these early years, we lay the foundation for responsible citizenship. Children learn kindness, respect, and empathy-- internal strengths that connect them to others. You can't just talk about these feelings and expect understanding; kids need to experience them. Our current project is a food drive. Any and all non-perishable food items can be brought in to support families in our own building for the holidays. Thanks in advance for your donations!

Student Drop Off
Please remember that students should be dropped off in the parent parking lot area adjacent to the gym (this includes 3rd graders). We have seen an increased number of students being dropped off in either the bus lanes or the staff parking lot. Both of these scenarios can lead to students being placed in harm's way. Please help us keep our students safe by dropping them off in the proper area. Thank you!
Family Lighthouse Bags
How exciting! Have you turned in your slip yet to participate in our family habit bags? The special habit bags come home and have an activity for you to do as a family. Once you have completed all 7 bags-- you are then a LIGHTHOUSE family! We already have 2 lighthouse families!
