Ozark Tiger E-News
WEEKLY NEWS HIGHLIGHTING OUR STUDENTS & STAFF
During the 2017-18 school year, Ozark School District began training students and staff the Run Hide Fight concept for intruder drills. The District also hosted a community safety night to extend that training to parents and the community. This year, the safety discussion continues through a Run Hide Fight video.
Shown to students at Middle School, Junior High and High School levels, and to all District staff, the video is designed to teach and empower students and staff to know how to react should they ever find themselves in a threatening situation — whether that be at school, at a restaurant or at the grocery store.
This video is also designed as a tool for parents and the community as a whole. Parents may want to watch this video and discuss it with their children. And while the video is made for older students and adults, some parents may consider showing this video to their elementary-age children.
Here are some things to consider as well as talking points for elementary students and older students.
Oct. 19 counts as a teacher workday from Parent/Teacher Conferences.
Last week was the first of three long range planning meetings to evaluate and update Ozark School District's Long Range Plan. Here is a copy of the presentation for anyone who was unable to make it to the meeting.

Childcare will be provided. This meeting will consist of focus groups so we can gather your input on the following categories:

All About Economics
First grade students at North Elementary have been studying economics. Each class designed a product to sell, filmed a commercial advertising their products, and earned currency through their Tiger Paws for being safe, respectful and responsible throughout the unit. All the classes watched their advertisements together, then had the opportunity to go shopping to purchase items from the other classrooms. At the end, an auction was held for the leftover items.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Double Jump Media representatives visited the Vocational Exploration class at Finley River School to talk about careers in media and video. They also talked about their lives and how education and experience play a role in getting the job you want. They even stuck around for an interview with a student who is particularly interested in media production and editing.
National School Lunch Week
- Along with the strict nutrition standards, each week school lunches must include one vegetable from the following subgroups: dark green, red and orange, beans and peas, starchy, and other?
- Ozark serves an average of 2,723 lunches per day and 773 breakfasts?
- Children eat as many as half their calories in schools? That means school meals play a critical role in reinforcing what kids are already learning about nutrition and healthy foods at home.
