Term 3, Week 8
13 September 2022
Tēnā koutou katoa
There will be a one-off, national public holiday on Monday 26 September to commemorate the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. School will be closed.
As of yesterday, mask wearing for Y4-6 students became optional, as it has been for Y0-3 students all year. From today, mask wearing for staff and visitors is also now optional. We will support students, staff and visitors who choose to continue wearing a mask at school.
All the other recommended public health measures will stay in place as we know they reduce the spread of infectious illnesses including COVID-19. These include ensuring our indoor spaces are well-ventilated, maintaining good hand hygiene, encouraging everyone to cough or sneeze into elbows and, most importantly, staying home and getting tested if they have COVID-19 symptoms.
As part of our fundraising for the Year 6 day out, we will be holding a garage sale on Tuesday 20 September. We would appreciate any donations of books, toys, board games or puzzles (no electrical items or clothing please). Could you bring these to Room 11. Thank you to those who have already donated.
The Year 4s will be looking at the lessons titled ‘Caring For My Body’ and ‘Moving My Body.’ Within these lessons, we will be covering general hygiene and why exercise is important.
The Year 5s will be looking at reproduction and the reproductive system including the correct names for our reproductive body parts.
The Year 6s will be looking at menstruation and conception.
Enviro Day and Gardening Materials Drive
Kia ora Paparangi School whānau!
Spring has sprung and as such, Paparangi School are using this term's Enviro Day on the 27th September to do a spring clean. As part of this, we are also running another gardening materials drive. We would love to take your pre-loved gardening tools, seeds, seedlings, pots, cuttings, potting mix, etc... off your hands. A new addition to our list of items we would love donated is any test pots that you no longer require. These will be used to help us create a mural with Paparārangi Kindy. Please send your child to school with any donations on the 27th of September and place them in the donation box outside the office or email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
Thank you in advance for your donations and support!
Sam, Christine and the Eco Warriors
Thank you for collecting these over the past two terms. Please keep collecting these and send them to school before Wednesday of week 10, 28th September so we can exchange them for sports equipment.
Use of Disabled Parking Space
Unless you hold a mobility parking permit please do not park in our disabled parking space. This space is needed multiple times each day by at least one of our families and vehicles not displaying a mobility parking permit have been preventing them from accessing it.
Hell Pizza Reading Challenge
The HELL Reading Challenge is a highly successful programme that gets tamariki reading and enjoying the pleasures of books, with the bonus of free pizza rewards.
How the Reading Challenge works:
Children are being given “pizza wheels”. Every time they finish a book, a slice of the wheel gets clicked off or signed by a teacher. When they have finished seven books, they can take their completed pizza wheel to any HELL Pizza outlet and redeem it for a free 333 kids’ pizza.
Here are the rules:
• Each pizza wheel is good for one 333 kids' pizza from any HELL Pizza outlet nationwide
• The wheel must be signed by a teacher and stamped with the official school stamp
• One pizza per visit per child
• Wheels are non-transferable for money
• Children must redeem their free pizza in person, and before Tuesday 31 January 2023.
Seesaw is a simple way for teachers and students to record and share what's happening in the classroom. Seesaw gives students a place to document their learning, be creative and learn how to use technology. Each student gets their own journal and will add things to it, like photos, videos, drawings, or notes. Each week more and more learning is being shared there. We highly recommend you check it and engage in conversation with your child about their learning.
This term we are doing an athletics rotation during P.E. Please ensure that your child is coming to school each day prepared for such activities (i.e. clothing and footwear suitable for running and jumping). A spare pair of socks and shoes in your child's bag would also be great if possible.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything with us, please remember that your first point of contact is your child’s home class teacher. Our email addresses are:
