Weaver Lake Family Newsletter
May/June 2022
Message from the Principal
Greetings Weaver Lake Families,
It's hard to believe that this is the last newsletter of this school year. It has been a weird and long journey these past few years! There is no other community that I would have rather gone on it with than the Weaver Lake STEM Community! I feel so deeply appreciative of the support that you have all shown the staff, students and each other during this time!
We have lots of learning left to do! Many of your students are going to start, are in the middle of or have just finished their week-long art residency thanks for COMPAS and PTO! We also have the carnival to look forward to - can you believe that it will be my first one at Weaver Lake? By the time you read this 5th grade will have gone to BizTown, K to Gale Woods Farm, and Engineering Night will have happened! We continue to work on our last Value Added STEM Project! Lots to talk about with your STEM student.
It is teacher appreciation week May 2 - 6th. Let your child's teacher know that you appreciate them with an email message, note or call! We will be celebrating all staff during this week! They have all worked really hard to do the best they can with all the COVID restrictions, protocols, learning models, etc. I am very proud to be working with them!
I do have some staffing updates for you as well. Kris Happe, TAG teacher, and Kathy Frost-George, PE teacher, will be out for the remainder of the year getting healthy! Kim LeClaire will be providing some TAG classes and support starting in May. Anna Buechler will be filling in for PE. Judi Andersson, 4th grade teacher, will be retiring after 35 years of service. Kathy Pike is also retiring from our 4Star after 33 years of service. Amazing and inspiring!
Last but not least, please take a moment to fill out our Intent to Return form for next school year. This form also gives you the opportunity to tells us about your child to help us make the best possible class placement for your child. Please do not include a request for a specific teacher. We do want to know unique factors about your child that we should consider.
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to reach out to your classroom teacher or me. Happy May!
With warm regards,
Lena Christiansen, Principal

New Opt in Transportation Procedure for School Year 2022-2023
Osseo Area Schools is implementing a new transportation opt-in requirement for the 2022-23 school year. This process will not change bus riding eligibility for students but will require parents/caregivers of transportation-eligible students in grades Kindergarten through 12 to declare how their student(s) will get to and from school.
Follow the link to complete the form: 2022-23 Transportation Registration
If the form does not indicate a bus is needed or a form is not received, students will not receive a bus assignment to start the 2022-23 school year.

Update From Volunteer Coordinator
Hello Weaver Lake Elementary Volunteers!
We made it to the end of another school year; the most normal one we’ve seen in two years! Thank you to everyone who volunteered this year and helped make it more normal. From cutting projects, to field trips, your help was appreciated and we couldn’t have done it all without you!
If you want to celebrate your achievements, join us on Friday, May 6 at the Volunteer Appreciation event. We’ll have some light refreshments, games and prizes. Just a fun way to wrap up the school year for all of our amazing volunteers! All are welcome, but we ask that you RSVP so we can plan accordingly. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f48aaa72eaafecf8-volunteer
We still need help at the upcoming school carnival on Friday, May 13. This is the first carnival Weaver Lake has had since 2019, so even if you can’t help out, we hope you can make it to this fun family event. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f48aaa72eaafecf8-weaver
Start watching your inbox in late August for new volunteer opportunities for the 2022-2023 school year! Remember, you’ll need to register to volunteer each year, so be sure to fill out the application in the fall so you don’t miss anything. If there is an area that you’re interested in volunteering for next year (Media Center, classroom help, copy room, etc.), please let me know that now. You’ll be the first to hear from me as we start to fill those positions at the beginning of the year.
Have a great summer!

Building a Better Future: November referendum election for learning and technology needs
For the first time in nearly a decade, the Osseo Area Schools community is being asked to reinvest in district schools to maintain services and address growing needs.
- Question 1 focuses on learning: Continue day-to-day learning operations and enhance individualized learning, academic interventions, scholar mental health needs and other critical classroom supports.
- Question 2 focuses on technology: Continue classroom learning technology, infrastructure systems and support staff. Additionally prioritize school safety and security, tools and systems for all scholars and digital learning spaces at schools.
Visit district279.org/BetterFuture for additional details on the ballot questions, upcoming community meetings and voting info.
