Something To Inspire.....
I don't have anything "formal" this time. This comes straight from the halls of OSE on Meet the Teacher Night. A now 3rd grade student, who has had his share of challenges over the years, came up to me and gave me a big hug. He said, "I missed you Ms. Hayunga....Actually, I've missed this whole place." He went on to ask about his 2nd grade teacher and when I told him she was no longer at OSE, he talked about how he missed her too and asked me if I thought she would ever be back so he could see her again. This brief interaction speaks volumes about what we do and the impact we have....every....single....day. Never forget the impact you can make on a child as we enter our 2nd week on the 2019-2020 school year. We DO make a difference!
Duty
Just a reminder to be sure you have filled your name in the appropriate number of spaces on the duty schedule according to the email Traci sent out on Friday. We'd like to get the schedule finalized and added to the OSE Google Classroom. We will check it tomorrow for any empty slots and the assign people to any empty positions. Remember, if you want to switch duties with someone, work it out and then let Traci or me know so we can update the schedule.
Self-Care
Calm, the app Traci mentioned during inservice, has launched the Calm Schools Initiative. Every teacher in the world is being offered the app for FREE. You can read more about the Calm Schools Initiative and how to sign up HERE.
LEAD
Don't forget to go to https://leadboykh.youcanbook.me or https://leadboytl.youcanbook.me to schedule your beginning of the year LEAD conference. If you have any trouble accessing the site, please let one of us know.
Something To Make Us Think.....
Over the summer, Traci and I did some reflecting on the very thing this picture represents. We realized that by referring to students as Sped kids, BIC kids, MTA kids, etc., we were unintentionally putting a label on students. By simply changing the terminology to something like, "Mrs. Baker's kids," or "Mr. O'Toole's students," the reference automatically has a more positive connotation. So as we begin working with these students, keep this in mind in your conversations as well as in your walkie-talkie communication that has the potential to be heard by many ears. Let's change the terminology!
This Is OSE.....
SOMETHING TO MAKE US LAUGH.....
Have an amazing week - shine bright!
