Weekly Annoucements
Please take time to read our weekly announcements on the school website and Schoology pages for students and families. These are posted every Friday. We encourage you to check them out for the latest Lakeville South news!
Attendance Matters
Research has shown that attendance habits established early in the school year persist over the whole year.
Students who missed fewer than 2 days in September continued to average fewer than 2 days
absent each month.
Students who missed 2 to 4 days in September were 5 times more likely than those who missed fewer than 2 days to be chronically absent for the year.
Nearly 9 out of 10 students who missed more than 4 days in September were chronically absent that year.
Attendance at the beginning to school year is key to success throughout the school year!
Lakeville South Attendance

Safety Sweeps
Lakeville Area Schools has a responsibility for the health and safety of our students during the school day and at school-sponsored events. We are committed to a proactive approach to safety and health, which includes prevention measures such as emergency safety drills and canine sweeps that are held throughout the school year. These measures help us mitigate serious risks to health and safety of students, staff and visitors.
Emergency safety drills educate and prepare students and staff on how best to respond in the event of a real emergency. When these drills occur, staff and students work together through procedures and scenarios to learn how they should react in a real emergency. We do not plan activities during drills that cause fear with our students.
Canine sweeps help maintain a safe environment free of alcohol and drug use, lessen usage, and help educate students on the serious harm caused by using substances. In partnership with the Lakeville Police Department, sweeps are always conducted in a way that avoids contact between students and a canine. Following sweeps, law enforcement partners provide school administration with prevention-based feedback including what went well and what areas of improvement exist.
We believe it is important families are aware of these measures that take place throughout the school year, and we want to thank you for your support as we work to keep our students, staff and school community safe and healthy.

CHOIR
Director- Julie Brott
Lakeville South Choir has kicked off the new school year early with many performances over the summer. Encore participated in many fun summer activities; singing the National Anthem at the Panorama of Progress, giving street performances at downtown businesses, and participating in the parade. We also sang the National Anthem at a St. Paul Saints game and for the Minnesota Twins. We kicked off the school year singing "Levitating" for our new Superintendent, Doug Van Zyl and sang for the LSHS Coronation.
On October 25th, all our choirs gave a stunning performance for our Fall Concert with the eighth grade choirs from McGuire Middle School and Kenwood Trail Middle School. The concert ended with a powerful song called "Be the Change" sung by all the choir students. This will be a busy and fun filled year with a busy holiday caroling season, a NYC Sing Strong competition as well as competing in the International Championship of High School A Cappella.
To support the choir or get the latest information regarding LSHS Choirs go to our website LSHSCHOIRS.org or follow us on FB LSHSChoirs.
THEATRE
This fall, the Lakeville South Theatre students tackled Louisa May Alcott’s famous Little Women, adapted by Thomas Hischak. For one weekend in October, the Lakeville South auditorium transformed into the humble March family home in the 1860’s. With nearly 700 people in total attendance among three performances, the cast and crew flooded the stage with energy, joy, and positivity to tell the story of the four March sisters as they navigate life, love, and the challenges of Colonial America. In the audience was Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Spotlight Education Evaluators, who give feedback on the show and hand out honors. Little Women was awarded an Overall Performance Honorable Mention, continuing along the trend with previous Lakeville South shows. Along with that, a number of our students received individual honors. Both Emma Cockrill (senior) and Keifer Campbell (sophomore) received an Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role for their roles of Josephine March and Jo March, respectively. Olivia Olmsted (freshman) received an Honorable Mention in a Leading role for her portrayal of Amy March. On the tech side, both Meagan Flaherty (senior) and Wylie Kenyon (sophomore) received Honorable Mention in Technical Leadership as our two Deck Captains. While a handful of students received Evaluator Shout-Outs for their performances as well: Mickie Patterson (senior), Shannon Chrisman (junior), Cade Hatlestad (junior), Barrett Gassman (sophomore), Charlie Nhan (sophomore), Maya Steffen (sophomore), Evan Pranke (junior), and Carson Hopper (sophomore). We are all thrilled to be able to share the success of our fall production with everyone!
