Charles Spencer Chaplin was born April 16, 1889 in London, England. Soon after he was born his father abandoned him, his mother, and his siblings. Charlie joined the comedy world when his mother had lost her voice at one of her performances. Lilly’s (Charlie's mother) manger then proceeded to push young Charlie onto the stage to replace his mother. Charlie was a natural; charming the audience with his youth and his comedy.
At the young age of 13 Charlie was becoming a known name in comedy. His first film premiered in 1914 called “Make a Living”. Charlie later went on to be in other films and soon became known for his comedic character named “The Tramp”. Charlie had two sons ( Charles Jr. and Sydney) after marrying his second wife Lita Grey (age 16).
Charlie had a successful career of movies and acts that ended up getting him many awards. He then went on to receive his first Academy Award in 1929. Charlie won 6 Academy Awards in his life. He later passed away on December 25, 1977, which was 4 years after receiving his final Academy Award in 1973.Questions
