LMES Field Day - Tuesday, May 24

FIELD DAY IS COMING! Students look forward to this day ALL YEAR LONG! This fun day is filled with lots of fun activities! In fact, there are 20 activities that your child will be able to enjoy on Field Day!

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE FIELD DAY HAPPEN! WE CAN’T DO THIS WITHOUT YOU!

Each classroom will provide volunteers to work at one station during the 12 Noon-2 pm Field Day time. Would you please help make this day a success by volunteering?

Our class station is Cat n' Hat, and we need 4 volunteers. If all the slots are filled for our station, please consider signing up to be a PE Floater for grades 3rd - 4th. PE Floaters help in other places to make the day a success. You can sign up to be a station volunteer or to be a PE floater by clicking on the following link:

May 24th Field Day Sign Up Genius

Due to the large number of students who will be participating in the activities of Field Day, we request that only those who are volunteering attend the field day events and that younger children not attend.

If you are unable to come to school to volunteer and would like to contribute to the success of the day, please consider donating a case of water for our students on field day.

All third grade students will be asked to wear RED on Field Day. Please consider this request and plan ahead if your child does not already have a red shirt in their closet.

Spring MAP Testing Dates

Our class will take Spring MAP Testing on Monday, May 9th for Reading and on Monday, May 16th for Math. For both testing dates, our testing time will begin at 7:45 a.m. Please make sure that your child arrives at school on time or even early so that they will not feel rushed before testing.

ELA Update

This week in ELA, we are wrapping up our unit on the five non-fiction text structures. We have been busy reviewing and plan to have our test on Wednesday. If you have not already, please look for your child's study guide which can be signed for two bonus points.

During the month of May, we will be using our cursive writing books in order to learn the correct way to form letters and words. We will also be working with poetry in order to understand figurative language such as idioms, metaphors, similes, and personification. We will notice that poetry is organized using stanzas, and uses rhyming and rhythm.

Math Update

This week in Math, we are wrapping up our geometry unit. We have learned about lots of geometry-related topics, but we had to take a break in the middle for testing. Before our test, we will review the following topics: perimeter, area, angles, types of triangles, polygons, lines, sets of lines, symmetry, and flip, turn & slide. Watch for a study guide to come home prior to the test.

Social Studies Update

We are moving on to Chapter 9 - Reconstruction after the Civil War. We are looking forward to learning more about what happens in South Carolina after the war is over.

Please be on the look out for a Social Studies project information sheet to come home on Thursday. Students have already started brainstorming about a topic from SC History in which they would like to learn more about. Last week, students were given an opportunity to use a Lego set to start thinking about one topic that they are interested in.

Science Update

This week in Science, students will be learning about the different habitats in which plants and animals live. Please get in touch with Mrs. Starkey with questions about Science. mstarkey@lexrich5.org.
