September 13, 2019 - Issue 3
Remembrance and Pride
In honor of those lives lost on September 11th, the date is also commemorated as Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Americans are encouraged to volunteer and pay tribute to the lives lost and those injured and to honor the first responders who risked their lives that day, as they do every day, and to our service men and women who continue to serve to defend our freedom.
This past Wednesday, we encouraged our students to do the same. Help out a neighbor, thank a service member or first responder, be kinder to those around you. We are stronger united.

Nurse's Corner
Welcome back! It is wonderful to see all the students in school. If your child has an epipen, asthma inhaler, or any other medication needed in school please make sure that we have 1) the medication, 2) parent/guardian authorization signature, 3) doctor's orders. Please contact Ms. Sperber or Ms. Kozol at 781-440-5926 with any questions.
Attention 7th grade parents:
By Massachusetts law, all seventh graders must have an updated physical (dated on or after 9/1/2018) and be up to date on all immunizations, including the adolescent Tdap (tetanus/diphtheria/pertussus) immunization, usually given at the 11 or 12 year old appointment. If you have not yet sent in the updated physical for your child, please do so ASAP.
Attention 6th grade parents:
Sixth grade is the final year for the Norwood School Dental Clinic. Dr. Stone will be in our school on Sept. 16 and 18. Opt-out forms were sent home last week. All students who do not bring in an opt-out form will be seen by Dr. Stone. If you have any questions about this program, please give Ms. Sperber or Ms. Kozol a call at 781-440-5926.
Looking ahead to next year: Sixth grade parents should be aware that all seventh grade students will be required by law to have an updated physical (dated on or after 9/1/2019), and updated immunizations including the adolescent Tdap and the adolescent meningococcal MCV4 (menACWY) immunization. While the CDC has been recommending this immunization for many years, the 2020-21 school year will be the first year that Massachusetts requires this immunization for school attendance. As you bring your children in for their physicals throughout this year, please make sure that they receive both immunizations (and HPV as well, though not required for school), and you can then send in the physical form to us at that time and they will be set for next year. Thank you!

PTO Corner
The PTO meets the second Thursday of each month to hear an update from the principal and discuss planning related to enrichment, fundraising, activities and other topics of interest. You can also stay up to date with the CMS PTO by following us on Facebook. You can contact the PTO at coakleypto@gmail.com.
Dues Letters will be coming home this week! If every family donates $20 it would raise over $10,000 for CMS. All PTO money is used for student events and activities.
