Information About Possible Remote Learning on Tuesday 4/6
Dear Fleming Families,
At Fleming, there is a sizable number of staff members that are getting their 2nd dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, April 5th. Based on our knowledge for potential side effects, we want to be prepared in the event that we do not have enough staff members available to safely run the building on April 6th. We will do everything we can to creatively staff our classrooms; however, in the event that we cannot, we wanted to give you all advance warning that we may need to call a remote learning day.
Students will be sent home with their Chromebooks on Monday, April 5th, and we will make the call for Tuesday, April 6th as soon as we have sufficient information to do so (either the evening of the 5th or early morning on the 6th). If April 6th becomes a remote learning day, it will model our remote Wednesday plan. If you do not hear from the school about Tuesday April 6th, it means we will be in person.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we do our best to plan for students.

Also, if you need to pick up your student early, please let the office know. This helps to locate the student, and make sure they are ready for pick up, especially if they are out at recess.
Fleming PTO Meeting
PTO meetings are a great way to connect with Fleming Schools and way to get involved to the school community. Mr. Roy also gives updates as to what is going on around school and as well ask questions you may have.
We will have board positions available in the Fall as two members will be moving on to ADL.

What's Happening Around School
Team Synergy 5th Grade
5th Grade Team Endeavor
Team Endeavor's 5th graders have been studying economics this year to engage in some real-world applicable learning as they get ready to transition to middle school. These hard workers submitted job applications with letters of recommendation, engaged in interviews, and all earned important "employment" opportunities for their school community that allows them to bring home some earned coupons. Today, these hard workers got to participate in a Live Auction to bid on items that they want to buy for themselves or as gifts for others, and the excitement was out of this world!

Important Outcomes for Equity in the EWSD
Students, teachers, school leaders and community members are invited to participate in focus groups to help the EWSD continue to make progress towards becoming an equitable, anti-racist school district.
District leadership wants to be able to best tell the story of where we are succeeding and where we need to continue to change and grow. As we look to issue an annual equity report, we need community input to decide what information goes into the report, how best to present it, and how to make sure it is helping us reach our vision.

Prevent Child Abuse Vermont
Your child is taking part in the We Care Elementary Program. This program is a sexual abuse prevention program that promotes healthy relationships at an age appropriate level for 4th and 5th grade students. The program includes a classroom curriculum and training for staff, and information for parents and caregivers. We Care is part of The Healthy Relationships Project, a series of three programs (Care for Kids, We care Elementary, and SAFE-T) provided by Prevent Child Abuse Vermont (PCAV) serving children ages 3-13, their families, and schools. APPROACH TO PREVENTION
All healthy relationship Project Programs include a common approach to prevention. Central to the healthy relationship project approach to prevention are the following beliefs:
Adults are responsible for protecting children and adolescents from abuse.
Violence can be prevented through helping students build healthy relationships.
Comprehensive prevention includes victim and victimizer prevention and bystander engagement.

ACT 1: SCHOOL COMMUNITIES
In 2009, the Vermont legislature passed Act 1, requiring that all school staff be trained in child sexual abuse prevention and that all parents be givent he opportunity to receive sexual abuse prevention information. In addition, the law requires that sexual abuse prevention education be part of comprehensive health education K-12. The law went into effect for schools on July 1, 2011 and PCAV has partnered with schools to assist them as they work to meet these requirements across the state.
Education is the best way to provide communities with the tools to prevent and respond to sexual abuse. PCAV provides training, curriculum materials, resources, and co-teaching support in your child’s school.
