Arts in Education

Reflections: The Reflection art contest is underway. This year’s theme is “Let Your Imagination Fly”. Be sure to turn in your masterpieces with an entry form by October 27th. Information and entry box is located outside the Smith workroom. For guidelines, rules, and forms you can also visit Smith’s PTA website

*Reflections is a PTA member benefit so please send in your membership dues before the deadline to participate in the Reflections program and support Smith.

Art Trivia

October’s art trivia question has been posted outside the Smith art room. Parents and students are encouraged to answer the question together. A prize drawing will be held on October 30th. You can also visit Smith’s PTA website for rules and current trivia question.

A. G. Ford Coming to the Smith Library


Smith is fortunate to have illustrator A.G. Ford come to speak to our third and fourth graders in the library next month. All students at Smith (not just 3rd and 4th) have the chance to pre-order his books and get them autographed! Books make excellent birthday gifts for your own children or their friends.

To learn more about A.G. Ford and his books, you can visit This wonderful illustrator is very talented and lives right here in Frisco! All books orders are due in the library by October 16. Thanks so much for celebrating reading and illustrating with us!!!

Batteries and Toner Recycling at Smith

Please send batteries and toner (in a baggie) to school to be recycled.

Messages for this week (shared on morning announcements):

October 5: Never send pictures or personal information on the internet without first checking with your parents or a trusted adult.

October 6: Make sure to keep your password a secret. Do not give our your password to anyone other than your parents/teacher (not even your best friend).

October 7: If something makes you feel scared, uncomfortable, or even confused, immediately tell a trusted adult.

October 8: Never post anything online or through an email or text that you would not say to a person face-to-face.

October 9: Say "NO" and log off the computer if a person online tries to confuse you or make you feel uncomfortable in any way.
