Wylie ISD Plans to Open a Staff Daycare for the 2023-2024 School Year

Wylie ISD addresses staff need for childcare by establishing 'Pup Academy' for 2023-2024 school year
ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - As waiting lists for Abilene daycares reach two years at some facilities, Wylie ISD is taking initiative to create its own staff daycare service for the 2023-2024 school year. For Kayla Barnes, she calls her third grade classroom home nearly 182 days out of the year, teaching math to her 64 students each day.

So what is the Teacher Application Roundup? We are going to open up a form application on our website starting Wednesday, March 1st that will be open through March 6th. This will be a short form that has a few questions including what you are certified to teach and will also have a place for you to upload your resume. Our administrators will look over these applications as they are submitted and will begin interview callbacks during the month of March. *WISD Spring Break will be March 13-17 so all offices will be closed and no interviews will be scheduled during that time.

Teachers in the Wylie Independent School District can apply for a grant to fund innovative ideas for the classroom. Up to $1,000 is available per teacher. Ideas should be creative and promote student success in the classroom. See the grant application for detailed instructions.
Wylie graduating seniors can apply for $1,000 scholarships from the WBEF or one of two $5,000 Sandifer Scholarships that will be awarded to Wylie athletes. See the scholarship application for detailed instructions.
Hendrick's Healthcare Academy at WHS
Wylie High School is proud and excited to partner with Cisco College and Hendrick Healthcare
launching Hendrick’s Healthcare Academy next school year! Through this academic partnership
WHS students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of careers in healthcare, earn dual
credit hours towards a degree in healthcare, have dual credit courses paid in full, and so much
more. Next school year WHS will offer Dual Credit Anatomy and Physiology as well as Dual
Credit Medical Terminology. Students will continue to have the opportunity to earn their CNA
certificate and now a Pharmacy Technician certification.
There will be an informational parent meeting for current 8th-11th graders who are interested on Monday, March 6th at 6:30 pm at the Wylie ISD Performing Arts Center.

Wylie Art Students Headed to State
Wylie Bulldogs are going to State VASE!
This past weekend our Wylie Art students competed in the Area and Reginal Visual Arts and Scholastic Event better known as VASE. Our Bulldogs were up against 14 other school districts from across the area. 280 works of art were entered and judged. And of all those pieces, only 22 were chosen to advance to State.

Wylie ISD DI teams competed at Midlothian High School on Saturday, February 25th and after a strong showing have many advancing to STATE! We are so proud of these students and sponsors who put in SO much work and time into this successful program.

Wylie Bulldogs Unified Team
The Bulldogs' Unified team showed off their basketball skills this past Saturday at a Special Olympics event at AYSA. Our student-athletes walked way with some hardware too! Way to represent WHS, Bulldogs!
Congratulations to Wylie Ag Mechanics
The Wylie FFA Ag Mechanics team traveled to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Ag Mechanics Show Feb. 23-26 and had a lot of success at it. Wylie FFA took three projects to the show including a 220 Gallon Smoker Trailer, Hi-Rack and a 94 Gallon backyard smoke.
The "Bulldog 220" smoker competed in the Ag. Mechanics Marketplace show which competed against all types of trailers in the trailer division. The team of Riley Bilbrey, Jay Owen, Gavin Faulks and Cesar Perez were fortunate enough to bring home Reserve Champion in the trailer division. In the Ag Mechanics Marketplace show, teams that make the top 5 of their division qualify for the live auction that the San Antonio Ag Mechanics Marketplace puts on. The trailer team ended up as Lot #6 in the sale and sold their trailer project for $11,000!!!
The Hi-Rack Team of Dylan James, Jackie Fordyce, Tru Ham and Kaden Cumby received Blue Ribbon honors for their work on their project. The team competed in the Wildlife division with their Hi-Rack.
Cole Killion and Luke Mehrtens received a blue ribbon for their 94 Gallon Offset Backyard Smoker that they constructed this year and was exhibited in the Outdoor Recreation Division.
Congratulations to all of the Ag Mechanics Teams on a job well done. These students have been building these projects since the first week of school started back in August.

Bulldog Tennis Fares Well in National Invitational
Congratulations to the 16 Wylie Bulldog tennis players who participated in the National Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) Tournament last weekend in San Antonio. The UTR Tournament is an invitation only tourney that placed the Bulldogs against some outstanding competition from across Texas and United States.
WHS Baseball Starts the Season Perfect at Iowa Park
It was a near-perfect start to the 2023 baseball season for the Wylie Bulldogs as WHS outscored four opponents by a combined 44-7 to go undefeated in the Iowa Park Tournament last weekend. The only thing that cooled off the hot start to the season was bad weather on Friday which cancelled the team's other two scheduled games.

Wylie heads to Hollywood- Summer 2024! An informational meeting will be held at the PAC Black Box on Monday March 6th at 6 pm. This trip is open to Wylie students currently in 6th grade and older.

Hopefully, students across Wylie will soon be able to access a Counselor’s Care Closet at their campus thanks to the Bulldog Protection Program, a community service initiative recently created by one of Wylie’s Destination Imagination (DI) teams. Hopefully soon students across Wylie will be able to access a Counselor's Care Closet at their campus thanks to the Bulldog Protection Program, a community service initiative recently created by one of Wylie's Destination Imagination (DI) teams. The DI team, called Science Alliance, used a similar program in Abilene ISD as a catalyst for their initiative after it's youngest member Clayton Hanner became aware of the program during an activity at church.
