Night Light Tulsa Service Project
Life Skills Class with Mrs. Phillips
Making Connections
In the 6th grade Life Skills class, we discuss leadership, teamwork, self-esteem, empathy, compassion, and belonging to a community. This service project will help bring these concepts to life for students. The goal is for students to participate in this project to help them see the incredible positive impact they can make in their community when they practice compassion, teamwork, and empathy while connecting to those in need in our community. I have previously volunteered one of my evenings under the bridge and I will never forget it.
Although we will not be taking students to volunteer at the bridge, we will have a guest speaker in class and we will be collecting donations (see lists of items below) to help support the organization. Our guest speaker, Mrs. Anisa Jackson, will visit our class to share her journey in helping to found this volunteer organization and building it to what it is today. Items collected during our donation drive will be delivered to the organization to disperse to the homeless they serve.
About Night Light Tulsa
Night Light tulsa was started by a group of volunteers that saw a need within the homeless community of Tulsa. Their mission is to provide a hot meal, essentials (like soap, deodorant, and first aid), clothing, and even foot washing. More information about this organization can be found on their website: http://nightlighttulsa.org/
