Kia ora e te whānau,
Welcome back to Term 3, and we hope you had a restful and relaxing holiday. It is great to have learners back in school, and the classrooms are buzzing with excitement and quality learning. Please regularly check our website, school app, Seesaw and Facebook for upcoming events and activities in and around the school.
Covid-19- As we have previously communicated, we are following the advice and guidance from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education and strongly recommending face masks are worn inside by learners at all times. Every classroom and learning space has an air purifier, and we have an ample supply of face masks at school for anyone who cannot provide their own.
The TNIS Way is a set of values that underpins what we do at TNIS and drives our school culture. Teachers always refer to these values in the classroom and out on the school grounds.
These values are:
A Safe Learning Environment
Effective Learning Interactions
Everyone is a Learner
Caring for Others
Respect for Others
Affirming Learners' Cultures
Unfortunately, at the end of Term 2, we had some learners who did not follow these values. This included using racial language, making gender comments, making negative personal comments, and using ‘put downs’. This behaviour will not be tolerated at TNIS and will be acted upon swiftly. It would be very helpful if you would talk with your child about the importance of these values and the impact that strong values have on a safe and happy learning environment for everyone. Your support is greatly appreciated.
We look forward to seeing you at our Learner Led Conferences on the 3rd of August or Parent Teacher Conversations on the 10th of August.
Mauri tū, mauri ora - An active soul is a healthy soul.
TNIS SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS 2022
Our school is undertaking a parent election for our School Board. Many of our current parent representatives will be stepping aside as their children have now moved on to higher education, and we are actively looking for the next generation of Board members to take up the opportunity at TNIS. This process started with the issuing of nomination papers to our caregiver community.
We have employed CES to undertake the election process on our behalf. This year with legislative change, our nomination form and full instruction on how to place your nomination on our own School’s Election website will be emailed to you if we have your email address in our database, or you will receive it by post if we don’t have your email in our database. Nomination papers will also be available at the school office. The school will send those on to CES for processing upon receipt from candidates.
Nominations close on Wednesday the 3rd of August at 12 noon. Election day is Wednesday 7th September.
We look forward to your participation in this process.

Music Education Centre Music Lessons at TNIS
Instrumental music lessons are available right here at school! Our school partners with the Music Education Centre to offer one-to-one instruction to our students on-site. For busy parents, the convenience of these lessons makes it easier for your child to both have FUN and gain the educational benefits of learning an instrument.
In addition to the lessons here at school, the Music Education Centre offers a wide variety of instruments through its centres outside of school time.
To find out more information or to book lessons here at school or at the centres visit their website www.musiceducation.co.nz and submit your details, or contact them directly by phone on 0800 89 39 39
Arrival and Leaving School Grounds
Ideally, learners should arrive at school no earlier than 8am and by 8:30am. They must leave the school grounds by 3:15pm unless they are taking part in an extra-curricular activity. Staff are unable to provide supervision for learners before 8am or after 3:15pm.
This term we are at Orange setting. Learners are now wearing their full school uniform to and from school. At Orange, they change into and out of their PE uniform at school. It has been great to see our learners proudly wearing their uniforms correctly.
In particular, we would appreciate your support in checking that your child is wearing:
- PLAIN BLACK SHOES (these may have a white sole but no other white or coloured logos or markings).
- navy blue or black socks (no other colours). These can be any length.
The uniform guidelines are set out below and are also available on our school website.

- bring their PE uniform to school for PE, Fitness and sports practices.

- All black trainers with white soles are acceptable.
