Oakwood Intermediate PTO Newsletter
April 2017
Principal’s Message
With the new month and the beautiful weather comes the rapid progression to the end of the school year. Believe it or not, we only have 36 school days left for 2016-2017. We recognize that our students participate in a number of activities outside of school and that the spring is a busy time of year. Please be sure to check our website calendar as you make your plans to ensure that your students are not missing any important events.
If you’re the parent of a 6th grade student and are interested in your child taking health or keyboarding this summer you can find available information at http://csisdsummerschool.weebly.com/. An informational meeting is being held in the AMCMS Cafeteria this Thursday, April 6 from 5:30 – 6:30. If you are unable to make the meeting, you can contact CJ Havlik through email at chavlik@csisd.org. Registration for Summer School opens Tuesday, April 11 online beginning at 10 AM.
Oakwood will be participating against the other schools in CSISD during the Annual EOY Food Drive in the week of April 24 – April 28. We will have grade level competitions with class prizes for the winners and we truly hope that you will allow your students to participate. It’s for a great cause and we are looking to defend our title.
Please mark your calendars for a 4 day weekend beginning on Friday, April 14 and concluding on Monday, April 17.
Every year at Oakwood, our students have the opportunity to participate in a number of fun activities at the end of May. We have a faculty versus student basketball game for all students, 5th grade movie trips and 6th grade picnics. On Monday, our students will be informed that participation in these events is a privilege and that their participation will be determined by their behavior. Students with multiple behavior incidents or serious offenses will not be allowed to take part in these events. We will certainly communicate this with you directly if anything occurs that will keep your child from participating.
As always, thank you so much for the opportunity to work with your students. It has been a great year up to this point and we are truly looking forward to finishing strong.

Oakwood PTO Needs You!
We are looking to fill a few more board positions on the Oakwood PTO next year. Our board currently meets either the 2nd or 3rd Tuesday at lunchtime.
- VP/President Elect: VP for 2017/18 & President for 2018/2019. VP also currently coordinates the former student scholarship committee.
- Fall Fest: Silent Auction (1 or 2 Positions): Solicit donations and manage the silent auction during our Fall Festival, including the Teacher auction. Fall Fest is primarily about bringing our Oakwood family together for a fun evening; money raised at the auction is a bonus.
- PE Support (1 open Position): Work with PE Coaches to coordinate snacks and volunteers for a 5K in the Fall, and the Jump Rope & Hoops 4 Hearts in the Spring.
- Game Day Parking (1 open position for an incoming 5th grade parent): Parking for TAMU home Football games is currently Oakwood's primary annual fundraiser. We need a 2nd parent able to work 4-5 of the home games next year, as well as help coordinate a volunteer team for each game. Depending on kick-off time, we work ~4 hours before game time. Great role for a parent not able to help as much during the weekdays!
- Workroom Coordinator (1 position): Help in the teacher workroom and coordinate the other workroom volunteers (we have many returning worker bees!). Act as the primary contact to the PTO and the administration regarding workroom needs.
Thank you for supporting our students and our schools!
