Calling all elephants! Did you know Laos is filled with elephants? People all around the world vist Laos to see the wonderful elephants they own. But tourists also come for their fantastic wildlife, culture, shopping, and excellent food!

Claustrophobic Laos

Laos is in South East Asia and is the only country there that is land locked. Laos borders Myanmar, China, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The capital city is Vientiane and Laos is 236,800 square km. The weather is hot and wet but in the mornings it is cool. The rainy season is from November to March. It was formed on 1945.

The current ruler of Laos is Thongsing Thammavong. He is the prime minister. In Laos, you can pay with US dollars or Lao Kip 8,000 Kip = 1 US dollar. The main belief system is Buddhism. The top three languages are Lao, French, and English. The real name for Laos is Lao People's Democratic Republic. There are about 6,665,000 people in Laos.

Laos is the perfect place for any adventurous traveler. Laos has a morning and night market. The morning market is a fresh market from the crack of dawn to about 11:00 am. The night market is a market that sells all kinds of handmade things from about 4:00 to 11:00 pm. The Mekong River is one of the longest rivers in the world and it runs straight through Laos.

Roots and Leaves

Laos has many wonderful crops and food. Such as rice, and sugar cane too. Laos also has tobacco, cotton, tropical fruit, coffee, and sweet patatos. Some people even sell River Reed from the Mekong River. Luang Prabang has great sausages. Local people sell these thing in markets all over Laos.
