Excessive Tardies

Require repeated directions, which delays the start of learning for all students
Interrupt instruction for all
Learn unprofessional / negative behaviors – arriving late is insensitive to others.
The Wild West Book Fair Is Here!
Dear Parents and Families:
Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:
- Set the example. Let children see you read.
- Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up
with changing tastes and reading skills.
Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books
to read.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
Book Fair dates: Monday, Nov. 13th through Thursday, Nov. 16th
Shopping hours: Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday 7:15-3:15. Thursday 7:15-1:00
Special activities: Thanksgiving Luncheon, Thursday Nov. 16th
If you are unable to attend the Fair in person, we invite you to visit our online Book Fair at scholastic.com/fair. Our Online Fair is available right now until Nov. 17th.
We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Amy Matthews
Media Specialist
Join Us For A DSES Thanksgiving Lunch
Please be our guest on Thursday, November 16th as we gather around our table for a holiday feast! Your Dolphin Café will be preparing an early Thanksgiving meal on November 16th. Parents and Guardians are invited to share lunch with their child that day during your child's scheduled lunch time. Lunch for students will be priced as normal and the cost for guests will be $3.45 per person. To attend, please be on the look-out and complete the slip that will be coming home with your child very soon and return it to your child's teacher by November 10th. Hope to see you then, and Happy Thanksgiving!
Principal For A Day
Many thanks to Captain Lindstrom from the Sandy Springs Police Department who served as our Dunwoody Springs Principal For A Day. He was a natural in the role!
Parent Survey - Please Participate
Every year, the state rates schools based on several data points. One of these data points is a survey that all staff, students, and parents complete about our school. You may complete the survey using your personal computer, smartphone or tablet. If you do not have access to the Internet, you are welcome to take the survey at DSES. We encourage all parents to take the survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. No parent participation or low parent participation will negatively impact our school's School Climate Star Rating from the state. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Results from the survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. We greatly appreciate your time and effort!
CLICK FOR THE GEORGIA PARENT SURVEY LINK: http://gshs.gadoe.org/parents
Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 take their portion of the survey at school and it is called the Georgia Student Health Survey 2.0. Federal law requires that the student survey questions be made available for review by all interested parties. Parents can opt out of the survey for their student. If you do not want your child to take the survey, please send a hand written and signed note to your child's teacher by Friday, November 3, 2017. If you do not respond by this date, we will assume that your child can take the survey. All 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will take the survey at some point between November 6th- November 17th
Digital Resources
Did you know that your child has access to all kinds of online resources from any connected device? Students can practice reading e-books, research topics, watch educational videos, practice typing, math, and much more. Just navigate to https://launchpad.classlink.com/fcs and have your child enter his/her student number and password (birthday mm/dd/yyyy). Then, students may choose from a wide variety of programs and databases. Give it a try today!
Hurricane Irma Make-Up Day
Fulton County has released the Hurricane Irma make-up day. Due to the Governor’s State of Emergency Declaration, two of the three days off will be waived, with only one day required to be made up. Friday, February 16th (which was originally scheduled as a student/teacher day off) will be a regular school day.
Dunwoody Springs Elementary Cafe Celebrations
Did you know that you can order treats for special celebrations right from our very own DSES School Cafeteria?
