Cottonwood Creek Cougar Chronicle
July 28, 2021
Message from the Principal, Mrs. Katie Johnson
Dear Cottonwood Creek Families,
Welcome to the 2021-22 school year. I hope this Cottonwood Creek Cougar Chronicle (CCCC) finds you healthy and safe and that you are enjoying the remaining days of summer. This summer, I enjoyed much needed family time. We found time to travel, exercise, read and enjoy the simple things in life. It was wonderful to be truly present with my husband, two daughters and our friends.
For those of you new to our Cougar Family, the CCCC is one way I share information with our families. In addition to information specific to Cottonwood Creek, the CCCC will include Cherry Creek School District Information. I typically send this communication once a month, but you can expect it more frequently at the beginning of the school year.
As we continue to prepare for the 2021-22 school year, I want to use this opportunity to share with you some information to help you prepare for the start of the school year. Please review the information in this edition of the CCCC and do not hesitate to contact the front office (720-554-3200) if you have any questions. As I get more information about the upcoming year, I will be sure to keep you informed.
I look forward to another great school year for your children, our staff and our community.
Katie Johnson, Principal

Early Release EVERY Wednesday K-5
Two years ago, Cherry Creek Schools and the Cherry Creek Education Association agreed to dismiss all elementary schools one hour earlier (1:45PM) every Wednesday to enhance our elementary teachers' professional development and training opportunities. That change was not implemented during the 2020-21 school year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but it will be implemented in this school year. With this change, our elementary schools will dismiss at 1:45PM every Wednesday, starting Wednesday, August 18th. In addition, for families who participate in after-school childcare, the after-school program will be extended every Wednesday at no additional cost. For families who need care, you can register with our school's program. See Section "Before and After School Care" for additional information.
We begin our day with a soft start. Students may arrive at school starting at 7:45AM. and all students are expected to be in their classrooms by 8:00AM. Students can enter through their grade level door (see map below). If students are not in the building by 8:00AM, they will need to enter through the main entrance and will be marked tardy.
Please make sure your email address is up to date in the Parent Forms on my.cherrycreekschools.org. The evening of Wednesday, August 11th, you will receive a Class Placement email including a welcome letter from your child's teacher for the 2021-22 school year as well as a link to sign up for a Family Connection Meeting with your child's teacher. If you do not receive the Class Placement email by 8AM, August 12th, please email Melissa Adler, our registrar.
Save the Date: Meet and Greet, August 12th 2:00-4:00PM
Family Connection Meetings and Back to School Night
The start of the school year provides us with many opportunities to reconnect and build relationships. This year, our teachers will hold Family Connection Meetings. The purpose of these meetings are to:
Listen and build relationships with families
Learn more about our students in order to provide authentic and relevant learning experiences, celebrate each individual for their diversity, and begin to build relationships built around empathy and kindness
Families will have the option to sign up for a 15-20 minute in-person OR virtual meeting with their child's teacher. The sign up will be included in your Class Placement email, which you will receive the evening of Wednesday, August 11th. All Family Connection Meetings will occur prior to Friday, September 10th.
We will not hold an in-person Back to School Night. However, virtual presentations will be posted on the Cottonwood Creek website the evening of August 13th. This will allow you and your family to access the information at your convenience, and you will be able to reference the information throughout the school year. In addition, as we have new families enroll in our school, they will be able to access the same information.
A Message from our School Nurse, Patti Rojec
I am excited to welcome your students back to school for another healthy year of in person learning.

Incoming kindergarten students are required by Colorado statute to have a completed immunization record. If you are unsure of your student's immunization status please contact your provider, me, or see the requirements here: https://cdphe.colorado.gov/school-resources
