What are the 6 Traits?

When your about to write a paragraph or an essay one thing you need to know are the six traits of writing. But what are the six traits of writing? Well to begin the six traits are ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions.

The 6 Definitions.

Ideas : ideas are writing that has a really clear message. The writing contains plenty of specific ideas or details.



Organization : Efficient writing has a clear beginning, middle, and end. The overall work is well organized and easy to follow.


Voice : The best writing reveals the writers voice and his or hers special voice.


Word Choice : Good writing contains strong words including specific nouns and verbs. Sentences vary in length and begin in a variety of ways.


Sentence Fluency : Effective writing flows smoothly from one sentence to the next. Sentences vary in length and begin in a variety of ways.


Conventions : Good writing is carefully edited to make sure it is easy to understand. The writing follows the rules for punctuation, grammar, and spelling.

Since we have gone over the 6 definitions, let me give you a better understanding of what they are!


Ideas : When you are choosing a topic for your paragraph or essay make sure it is one that you like.


Organization : Make sure that when you are making your paragraph its not all over the place. Make it smooth and easy to follow.


Voice : When you are writing anything make sure your voice is heard. Its your writing, your paragraph, your piece of greatness.


Word Choice : When you write don't use the same word 15 times or 49 times or even 10 times. Use strong words and new words.


Sentence Fluency : When you write don't let your words be choppy, let them be slow and smooth.


Conventions : When you are writing make sure that you use commas, grammar, and correct spelling.

When you write you need to have a organized list of how to create the perfect piece of work. This piece of work is called the writing process.


Explanation on the Writing Process

Before you jump the gun and go right to typing or writing, plan ahead. To plan ahead th first thing you need to do is brainstorm. If you remember the 6 traits, think of brainstorming as ideas. Next on the list is prewriting. Prewriting is thinking about what you are going to write. The composing stage. During the Composing stage, Use your ideas to create a rough draft. Next, evaluation. Evaluation is seeing how the rough draft turned out. Like, if you have 15 words or 2 words in a sentence. Seeing if you have run ons or if you use the same word. After you evaluate you have to have revise. Revision is when you see the mistakes you saw when you were evaluating in your paragraph. Next is editing. When you edit you fix all the mistakes you had in your paragraph. Last, publishing. Publishing is when you share your work with the WORLD!
