If you still have pending enrollment documentation to submit, we request you to be responsive to requests from the school. If you do not hear from us, your child's file is complete.
In today's school newsletter edition, you will find information related to class lists, technology guidelines, and more. You will also note a new section of our newsletter for our powerful PTA and other relevant updates for families!
The countdown is on and we are eager to share more of our plans with you! Please make sure to mark your calendars for several important upcoming dates to pick up your child's Tyler Care Package and technology, if needed.
Next Thursday, August 20, we will host our second Tyler Reopening FAQs session to share our recent updates and engage in open discussion. We hope you can make it!

I. Class Lists
Students are listed by their first initial and last name under the tab of their grade level for the upcoming year. The teachers listed are homeroom teachers (last name only). For students in Grades 3-5, these are students' teachers for Block 1.
All class lists were informed by teacher input in June. These drafted class lists are subject to change in accordance only to any recommended district guidance.
Note: The color coding is due to a formatting issue and is not related to any student grouping or identification specifically in selected cells.
II. August Class Community Meetings
During the week of August 17 OR August 24, your child's teacher will schedule virtual Class Community Meetings. You will have the chance to learn more about the new grade-level and connect with other parents in your child's class. Also, kids will have the opportunity to meet their peers! Be on the lookout for introductory communication from your child's teacher in the coming days.
III. DCPS Technology Tips for Learning at Home
Pre-K families who requested a device will receive an iPad or similar tablet, while our Kindergarten -5th grade students will receive a laptop (Microsoft Surface Go, Dell, or Lenovo). If you indicated need for high-speed internet access, your device will either be cellular-enabled with free internet access, or you will receive a separate mobile hotspot, also at no cost to families.

YES — If your child is staying at Tyler for SY20-21, please keep your device. If you are changing schools, please return the device to Tyler and pick up a device from your new school.
NO — Please complete the form at dcps.tech/survey by August 21 to request a device.
Technical Requirements for Learning at Home
Canvas, our online, common learning management system, will be used by teachers and students to keep learning at home resources in one place, and Microsoft Teams will be used for live instruction. Logging into Canvas every day is like entering the school building every day. This is how we will track attendance!
If you are using your own computer to learn at home, please make sure it meets system requirements for these online tools. A preferred device runs either Windows 10 or iOS, has a dual-core processor and 4GB RAM (or higher). Your student should have high-speed internet access with unlimited data and a keyboard to work from, as well as child-friendly headphones if that is your family’s preference.
Learning at home with an iOS or Android mobile phone is not recommended. Please also note, Kindle Fire tablets do not support DCPS learning at home tools such as Canvas and Microsoft Teams. Review our full recommendations on technology system requirements.
We know that technical questions or troubleshooting may arise when learning at home. DCPS and the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) are partnering to provide a family-facing technical support center. The Family Call Center will launch this fall and cover logins/passwords or other technical issues with accessing learning platforms (i.e. Canvas, Teams) or DCPS-issued device support. More information about the call center is forthcoming.

V. Polite Piggy's Update (A note from Director Duckett)
Polite Piggy's tutors and team members will tutor virtually starting 8/5. Tutoring will happen between 9:00 am-6:00 pm until school begins on 8/31; after, tutoring will occur between 3:30-5:30 pm. Children will receive academic and social emotional support while tutoring with Polite Piggy's. Children from any school can participate in our tutoring program.
Mr. Derrick will offer small group in-person play and fitness starting 8/5 outside of family's homes (masks on and temperature check by Mr. Derrick before play session begins) or at Lincoln Park (family must drop off, masks on for all, temperature taken by Mr. Derrick before drop off).
Equity is a value held deeply in our beliefs and hearts as an organization. We will offer scholarships to as many families as possible. Please email if you have any questions or want to sign your child up. We will also reach out to our school communities to get information to families.
We will add programming during and after the school day on 9/8/2020 such as: playgroup leaders to provide curbside after school fun and distance learning buddies to support children at home during the school day.

I. Tyler PTA Beautification Day - Saturday, August 22
On Saturday, August 22nd, we will meet safely as a Tyler Family to do some clean-up at our school and stuff our students' Care Package bags! We've created slots for volunteers to fill and we will make sure everyone is socially-distanced as we work together to get ready for school! DC government had begun mailing out the remaining P-EBT (food assistance) cards to all DCPS families at Title 1 schools (regardless of need) in the amount they would have spent on food for each child during the last 10 weeks of school. Most of the cards they're mailing during this final round are for families who do not otherwise qualify for benefits. The value on one card is over $350. There is no way to return the cards and they are not transferable.
If your family does not need the benefit, please consider using the card and donating the amount of the card to the philanthropic efforts of our school and PTA. This can be done in a number of ways:
1. Buy food on Amazon using this link and have it delivered to the Capital Area Food Bank DC facility at 4900 Puerto Rico Ave NE.
2. Donate to Little Lights - a local non profit that mentors and provides support to many of our Tyler Tigers. https://www.littlelights.org/give/
3. Donate to the Tyler PTA and 100% of the donation will be used to buy gift cards to grocery stores for Tyler families in need:
