Tiger Times
NEWS AND INFO FOR SLATER STAFF 10.28
It's almost time for our Fall Festival! We need more TRUNKS! If you would like to set your trunk up for the Trunk or Treat extravaganza please see Ms. Turner ASAP. The more the scarier! (I mean merrier.) We have Carver volunteers who can help manage staff trunks, if you'd like to participate. Every teacher who participates will win a prize!
BE ADVISED: On Friday 11/1, 95% of the parking lot will be reserved for our Trunk or Treat extravaganza! Even the grassy areas will be reserved. Please park at Carver or across the street. You may want to consider arriving a little earlier to account for that.
Also, please remember that our designated visitor parking spaces are for visitors only. Thank you for your cooperation and enjoy the festival!
Finally, please stress to students that we are wearing costumes Friday, not Thursday. Please also stress that they are not permitted to bring Halloween candy to school, and that if they choose to do so, the candy will be confiscated. (In addition we will repeatedly announce this, robocall, and send correspondence home).

We got back to business the week of 10/21! We communicated with families sending home 223 messages. We shared 56 pictures and videos. And our positive student feedback climbed to 89%. 1 percent away from our goal of 90% positive feedback school wide. Congratulations on fantastic growth! We will be ramping up our Class Dojo protocols in the near future. Stand by for more information. In the meant time, if you haven’t done so, please add Principal Kemp, Dean Amos, Dean Moultrie and Coach Turner as co-teachers if you have not done so already. Please reach out to any parents that have not connected with your ClassDojo. Contact Ms. Woods if you need additional support.

Our October 24th fire drill was a success. Each drill has gotten better and better. Monitor your classes closely coming and going. When exiting the building please watch out for our smallest/youngest students i.e. Pre-K and Kindergarten.
BE ADVISED: There may be an ID Badge audit sometime during the week of 11/4. If you do not have a badge be sure to replace it ASAP. It’s mandatory that ID Badges be worn and must be visible every second that you are at work.
- Immediately intervene anytime you see students in conflict. Remember it only takes a moment for a spark to turn into a fire. Students under your supervision should be monitored closely.
- Mr. Moultrie would love and come to read to your class. Please email him to coordinate a time that is ideal.

This week we will focus on what to do during a Level III Full Lockdown, Full Lockdowns occur when there is a threat inside of the school, a threatening person enters the school or possible weapon involved incidents/active shooter situations. Last week we focused on Level Exterior Lockdowns.
If anyone needs further information on the new lockdown nomenclature or lockdown protocols or expectations, please reach out to Mr. Moultrie by email. Please review the expectations for each of the three types of lockdown:
Level I: Exterior, Level II: Interior and Level III: Full Lockdown.
Next week we will review the possible life saving AVOID, DENY, DEFEND protocol. For an overview check out http://www.avoiddenydefend.org/.

Culture Resource of the Week
Compassion Is A Game Changer
Compassion is an amazing thing that we ALL MUST have for the children we serve. We have compassion deficits. In the coming newsletters we will be diving into an examination of compassion and how it is the game changer for the hard but important work we do every day. We will begin our dive into compassion with the establishment of a working definition for compassion. Later we will consider how compassion is different and more useful than empathy and may other emotions in addition, to how we leverage compassion for success for all!
What is the meaning of Compassion?
The meaning of compassion is to recognize the suffering of others and then take action to help. Compassion embodies a tangible expression of love for those who are suffering.
Check out this Edutopia Article on creating a compassionate classroom.
