The Cub Connection
January 31, 2021
Dear Heritage Families
Hello Heritage Family,
This month our students will be engaging in various Service Learning Projects. Service learning is a great way to accomplish academic goals, promote teamwork and communication and contribute to a positive school culture by inspiring students to give back.
We feel that this experience of giving back to our community can be powerful for our young students. We not only want them to practice collecting items to support our local community, but we want them to learn about the organizations that they are supporting.
This month the students will be learning about the following organizations and collecting items to support them.
Kindergarten - Pennies for Police : Supporting the Blue Line Family Foundation. Click here to learn more! Project: Students will be sorting & counting coins & creating a book about Police Officers.
1st Grade - Bristol Manor & Park Lane Donations of Socks and Washcloths. Project: Students will be creating gift bags and writing cards and letters for the nursing home residents.
2nd Grade - Donations for Five Acres Animal Shelter. Click here to learn more! Project: Students will be creating gift bags and creating a commercial for Five Acres Animal Shelter.
As always we are looking for donations for our Helping Hands Program - At the bottom of this newsletter you can see a list of items we are in need of. These items are used throughout the year to help keep our Helping Hands Program running smoothly.
Service learning has many benefits for our students. Through service-learning students are able to gain new perspectives and understanding, build on communication and leadership skills and find their confidence. I cannot wait to be a part of these projects this month! Thank you again for your continued support of our students, school and community!
Love,
Dr. Megan Sutton
Valentine's Day Procedures
This year we are taking extra precautions with our Valentine Exchange to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Please make sure you are aware of the new procedures and the DATE that we are asking our Valentine's to arrive at school. As always if you need assistance with getting Valentine's ready for your child to exchange - please contact Mr. Deeken! kyledeeken@wsdr4.org
- Valentine's Day Card Exchanges are on Friday, February 12th.
- Students may share Valentine's Day Cards with their classmates & teachers only.
- We recommend that students do not use the envelopes, just use the cards. This prevents the licking and closing of the envelopes. If envelopes are used, as long as they are not licked that will be good. We would like to avoid the use of saliva to seal envelopes during the ongoing pandemic.
- All cards should be at school on or before the morning of Feb. 8th, so that they can sit for 72 hours before the kids share them with other students on Feb. 12th.
- Valentine's Day cards should not have any edible treats attached.
WSD Student Account Password Change
The Wentzville School District incorporates the use of many resources to provide both security and privacy to our students within the digital age of learning, though a strong password is the first line of defense. If a student/family would like to change their password, while logged into their Chromebook or Chrome browser with their WSD Google account, locate the Bookmarks Bar and navigate to “WSD Bookmarks”, select “SSPR” to change the password.*
*At this time, this website is only available while in school buildings. Additionally, families may also contact the Technology office ((636) 332-3751) to schedule a time to come up to change the password with their student.
Additional Tips:
- When changing a password for a younger student, please ensure that families practice the new password with their student, so they do not forget the password when using technology at school. Teachers do not have access to changed passwords.
- For older students who have access to a mobile device (ie - cell phone), please consider adding Google 2 Factor Authentication to their account. This provides additional security to their school account. This option is not recommended for students who do not have access to a mobile device, as a verification code is sent each time they log into a new device/website.
- If a student forgets their password, please have the student contact their teacher and the teacher will submit a work order to HelpDesk to have the password reset. Please note, this may take up to 24 hours.

Calling all future scientists!!
Heritage Primary is hosting it’s very first ever Virtual Science Fair! All you have to do to sign up is fill out the Google Form that is linked right here.
Once you complete the form, you will receive an email inviting your child to the Heritage Primary Science Fair Google Classroom. Here, you will find all of the resources you need to choose and complete a Science Fair project. Your child will also be assigned a Science Fair Slideshow template which will be used to complete each area of the project, and submit the finished product for judging. Projects will be due on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 and will be judged that afternoon. Then, the projects will be displayed on the Heritage Primary Virtual Science Fair website the following day, so you can see how your child did, and view the other projects.
I hope you all decide to make Heritage History and join in the fun! Contact our Science Fair coordinator, Kathy Hoffmann, with any questions. Her email address is: kathleenhoffmann@wsdr4.org
