The Warrior Weekly
Week of January 4th
Happy New Year!
It has been an outstanding first half of the 2015-16 school year. The Intermediate staff is excited about what the second half of the year holds for all of us. Even though we are just getting set to come back from Winter Break we all know how quickly the year will continue to progress. Spring Break will be on us quickly and MAP testing is just around the corner. I have been so impressed by the hard work that both our students and staff have put in this year. The growth and progress I have seen is outstanding. As we begin the third quarter please do not hesitate to contact either the office or your child's teacher if you have any questions about your child either academically or socially. Thank you all for the support you provide to the school and our community.
I wanted to let you know that for the second half of the year we are making an adjustment to our morning routine. When students arrive each morning they will still have the option of heading to the cafeteria for breakfast. After breakfast students will no longer go the the gym. All students will head directly to their classrooms. Prior to 7:30 students will sit in lines outside of their classrooms while being supervised by staff members. At 7:30 students will enter their classrooms to begin preparing for the school day. We hope this change will allow students a few extra minutes to prepare for the day and help each classroom be ready to start the school day at 7:45. This change once again emphasizes the importance of students arriving to school on time on a consistent basis. Attendance at the Intermediate School has been outstanding this year and we hope that continues in the second half of the school year.
Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do to support the Winfield School District, Winterfield Intermediate and The Warrior Way!
As always please call, email or stop by the office if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions.
Proud to be a Warrior,
Jeff Schultz
Cold weather is here
You can find the information below on the district website. It's bright and sunny out right now but we all know the cold weather will be here at some point.
Wow!!!
The Counselor's Corner
Hello Warriors!
In the upcoming weeks I will be discussing the Zones of Regulation with all of our Intermediate School Warriors! The Zones of Regulation give our students a concrete example of what they are feeling and how to handle different emotional states. For more information you can follow this link. In our lessons, students learn how to use strategies or tools to stay in a zone or move from one to another. Students explore calming techniques, cognitive strategies, and sensory supports so they will have a toolbox of methods to use to move between zones. To deepen students’ understanding of how to self-regulate, the lessons set out to teach students these skills: how to read others’ facial expressions and recognize a broader range of emotions, perspective about how others see and react to their behavior, insight into events that trigger their less regulated states, and when and how to use tools and problem solving skills. If you have any questions about how these tools can help your students outside of school please feel free to contact me at anytime.
