School Board Member Appreciation Week, March 18th-22th

March 18-22, 2019, is “School Board Member Appreciation Week,” a time when our students and staff can recognize the many positive things our School Board members do for education. During this week, we are encouraging students to create special messages for our board members, Mrs. Linda Bryant and Ms. Kimberly Dove, and ask parents to join us in sharing their best wishes.

As elected officials, School Board members are responsible for setting educational and personnel policies, providing buildings and equipment, operating a transportation system and approving the school system budget. As community leaders, school board members serve as advocates for the children in local public schools and must study, evaluate and decide what actions are in the best interest of all students.

But beyond that, our School Board members are ardent supporters of Creekside High School and our students and staff.

Also, the Fulton County School Board provides solid leadership to our entire school district by being good stewards of taxpayers’ dollars, including oversight of SPLOST technology programs, construction projects and safety initiatives, and by ensuring that students are prepared for a successful future beyond high school, thanks to our district’s five-year Strategic Plan. They also have been instrumental in the school system’s quest for charter system status. Because of this, Fulton County Schools can enact innovations that lead to increased student achievement and greater accountability.

Here at Creekside High School, we appreciate what our School Board members do for our students!

Creekside 21st Century Students to participate in E-Sports Gaming Arena

Tomorrow, at 3:30 pm, the students (Justin Ayiih, Dominic Haughton, Dhruv Patel, Christian Bell and Aaron Furr) will compete in an exhibition with studetns from Atlanta Public Schools. CNN is expected to do a feature on this cutting-edge opportunity for student engagement in one of the fastest growing industries in the world.

The new esports arena includes a classroom to provide students with training in broadcast production, online streaming, audio engineering, video editing and game development.

This opportunity was short notice, but a chance for exposure nonetheless. With their permission slips signed, I am respectfully, asking for the students to be released at 2:30 pm so that they can be transported (via the CIS of Atlanta van) can arrive at the Johnson Research and Development Center (275 Decatur Street, Atlanta, GA).

Thank you all about your unwavering support!

Note: The partnerships is with The Young Foundation, Skillshot, Johnson Research & Development Center and Atlanta Public Schools. Creekside High School, will ultimately open the doors for a partnership that will allow Fulton County Schools to participate.
