FTT Update

Thank you for participating in our first Family Teacher Teams meetings over the last two weeks! We had a great turnout and we’re thrilled that you’ll be partnering with us on this important initiative.
Our teachers spent many hours planning and preparing, and each grade level picked a specific focus area and prepared activities they felt would be best for students to focus on.
We received great feedback from families about the FTT meetings – thank you for all the survey responses! Here are just a few below:
“We got great ideas for some fun math games that we can play for just a few minutes at a time.”
“Getting examples of how to help my student with their reading at home was very helpful and I learned new tips I’ll be integrating.”
“Love this new format/technique with Parent/Teacher partnership and goal setting! So excited to see where it will take our child!”
A recap of the focus areas and activities that teachers chose by grade level is below.
Kindergarten:
Letter Names & Sounds
Activities include using alphabet cards to play Alphabet Boom!, One Minute Time Trial, Letter Scavenger Hunt, and Object Scavenger Hunt Race.
1st Grade:
Letter Names & Sounds and Fry’s First 100 Sight Words
Teachers provided lots of fun activities and games for parents that use alphabet or sight word flashcards. Need more great resources? Check out this Padlet!
2nd Grade:
Reading: Words Correct Per Minute (WCPM)
Parents will time & track their 2nd graders as they read a set of words or passages for 1 minute 3 times a week for the next 5 weeks.
3rd Grade:
Math Fluency: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division
Tons of great math games to play with your 3rd grader were provided.
4th Grade:
Reading Fluency: Words Correct Per Minute (WCPM) & Comprehension
A set of 3 reading passages with questions were given to families to read 4 times a week over the next 3 weeks.
5th Grade:
Math: Computational Accuracy
Parents and 5th graders will play Multiplication War, Multiplication Heads-Up, & Multiplication Compare using number cards.
Thank you for working with your child on these activities over the next 5 weeks. We look forward to seeing their progress.
Teachers will host your individual parent-teacher conference the last week in October.

Thanks So Much VV Families for the “Stock the Lounge” donations this week!! We’ll be collecting again Monday morning, October 18th. Again, a simple opportunity to show our VVE Staff/Teacher some appreciation…if you happen to be running errands, pick-up a little something extra for the VVE Staff Lounge and drop it off with our volunteers when you drop off your student (or if your child rides the bus or walks and they have room in their backpack that's great too)! (Ideas for items: “shelf-stable” snacks, sparkling water, Keurig pods, etc.) | Please join us for our next FFO meeting, Wednesday, Oct. 20th at 6pm via Zoom. We promise it won't be too scary! | Return of Trunk or Treat - 10/29!!Please join us for the annual Trunk or Treat event on October 29 from 6:30-8pm.
