Dutch Fork High School
Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you enjoy your time with family and friends November 27-29.
Beta Club Needs Your Help to Make a Difference
Dear Dutch Fork Family,
During the time leading up to Thanksgiving, we would like to give thanks to things that matter to us - one of those being health, not only for ourselves but also for our family and friends. A lot of us don’t have to worry about that, but what about the kids who do? There are kids in our community who are diagnosed with life-long diseases or are in and out of the hospital constantly. One of our students at Dutch Fork was actually diagnosed with a chronic autoimmune disease when they were in 9th grade and has since visited the Children’s Hospital more times than they can count.
Here at Dutch Fork, we care about those kids, such as this student, and want to help them however we can. That’s why we partnered with the University of South Carolina Dance Marathon to raise money for Prisma Health Children’s Hospital. Miracle Network Dance Marathon is the only children’s charity where all the funds raised stay in the local community, so all the funds raised by our program directly benefit the Child Life Program at Prisma Health.
Here are some ways you can help:
Come to the Dance Marathon Event and participate for the cause (Feb 21st)
Donate directly to the cause (NOW)
Spread the word to neighbors, friends, and family
Any way that you can contribute will help the Children’s Hospital make every child’s experience as comforting as possible. For more information or to donate to the cause, please click the link below and click Donate Now. Then search “Beta Club” to donate.

Aplin Teaches Students to Use Virtual Reality Goggles
In the spring of 2019, Dutch Fork High School purchased a set of virtual reality goggles that teachers and students can use to travel to places far away. Students can also explore "places" that would normally be impossible to visit, such as the inside of blood vessels or a World War II battlefield. Digital Integration Specialist Susan Aplin works with teachers to develop meaningful lessons connecting content to technology. For one VR lesson, Ms Aplin collaborated with science teacher Rebecca Valencia to create an interactive STEM lesson using the goggles. This lesson was featured in ClassVR's 30 Creative Ways to Use ClassVR Sharing Best Practices ebook. We are excited to be able to offer our students these powerful experiences. See the article/lesson here:
