MS STEM Expo
On April 4 Middle School Students will be holding their STEM Expo presentations. This is the culmination of inquiry based projects that each of our middle school students completed in their science classes. These will take place at a variety of times during the school day, and parents are welcome to come to school to see their own student’s presentation as well as those of other students. Here is the schedule:
ACT Day - April 5, 2022
10th and 11th graders will take PreACT and ACT respectively on Tuesday April 5, 2022. 10th and 11th graders will be the only students on campus. All other grades have no school that day.
PreACT and ACT for 10th and 11th Grade Students
On April 5th, 11th and 10th graders will take the ACT and the PreACT, respectively. The ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States. The PreACT is a multiple choice exam that familiarizes students with the ACT. More information about these tests can be found here:
https://www.act.org/content/act/en.html
https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/preact.html
There is a non-testing information session for both tests. 10th graders will do the session on the testing day. 11th graders will do the session on Wednesday, March 30, during their advisory class. Please make sure to bring 2B pencils to both sessions and tests.
On testing day, school lunch will be provided in the cafeteria at 12:00pm. School buses will pick up students at 12:30pm. 11th graders testing with accommodations need to arrange their own transportation.
If you have questions, please contact test coordinator CeCe Wang at lele_wang@beaverton.k12.or.us.
Choir Concert
ISB advanced choirs performed on March 10. Their first piece was our new ISB Anthem composed by our choir director Tom Wilde. You can watch and listen to it here. And if you enjoy choral music, here is a link to the full concert.
Battle of the Books
7th Grade Board Games
Grade 7 students in their English classes designed, constructed, and played board games based on choice novels they had all read related to a unit on dystopian worlds. It isn’t common to see a combination of literary analysis with fun and games.
Dragons in the Spotlight
Adam Ramsey, Sathya Chilikuri, and Christopher Harker won the Pacific Northwest Japan Bowl held earlier in March in Level 4 (the highest level). They will now be participating in the National Japan Bowl which will take place April 21 and 22. Congratulations to Adam, Sathya and Christopher!
ISB is proud to have three National Merit Scholar Finalists this year. Congratulations to Lakshmi Adiga, Kara Ng, and Jaime Park.
Zach Song was our winner on “Pi Day”, March 14 (3.14). He was able to recite pi to 231 decimal places. Here is what that looks like: 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510582097494459230781640628620899862803482534211706798214808651328230664709384460955058223172535940812848117450284102701938521105559644622948954930381964428810975665933446128475648233
Day of Silence/Night of Noise
High School Student Survey
Each year the District surveys students, staff, and parents to gather information for planning, program evaluation, and assessment of progress on the District's Strategic Plan.
The student survey takes about 20 minutes during the regular school day. The data gathered from the survey are anonymous; your child will not put his/her name or other identifying information on the survey. Like other surveys, results will be presented only about groups. No individual data will be reported.
Student surveys of middle and high schools include three optional questions for students to identify their gender, ethnicity / race, and sexual orientation. These questions allow for additional levels of analysis of questions on inclusion, safety and bullying.
Your child may skip questions or stop filling out the survey at any time. Refusing to participate or withdrawing from the survey does not affect your child's grades or class standing in any way. If you or your child does not want to participate, your child can read or do some other activity while his or her classmates complete the survey.
A copy of the survey is available from your child's school under the Annual Surveys tab and is posted at https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/accountability/research-reports
After reviewing the survey, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify scott_gladney@beaverton.k12.or.us.

With more people itching to get outside to walk and bike, it’s a good time to review the rules to ensure everyone’s safety. Be sure to review the best routes to use and if biking, check the bike’s condition before you head out.
Here are a few steps to remember:
● Always wear your helmet
● Ride in the same direction as traffic, not against traffic.
● Be visible. Wear a bright jacket or add reflective material or blinking lights to increase visibility.
● Stay alert and ride predictably, in a straight line.
● If riding on the sidewalk or in a crosswalk, ride at walking speed and be prepared to walk your bike when it gets busy or at the request of crossing guards. Be always mindful of pedestrians and aware of traffic.
● Don’t assume that drivers see you – always watch for cars making turns or backing out of driveways. Learn bicycle safety skills in a class or ask Safe Routes to School to give a lesson at your school!
