Mrs. Walters' News
The second week of school was even better than the first! Nice work Bushnell Bears!
Kids have been learning all about the Bear Necessities of being respectful, responsible and safe. Teachers introduced these concepts and how they can see them in all areas of our building including hallways, the playground, restrooms and the lunchroom. We will revisit these important social skills often with our little learners.
Another key idea with PBIS is to positively respond when we see
appropriate behavior. Positive reinforcement motivates kids (and adults) to
do their best. Monthly celebrations are planned as a fun way to celebrate those
classes who earn the celebration through teacher guided behavior goals as a class.
All school lunches and breakfasts are free once again this year! However, if you think your family would normally qualify for free/reduced lunch, please take the time to fill out the information at this site. https://www.lunchapp.com/ The amount of support our school receives from federal dollars is directly associated with our need.
Over the next three weeks, teachers are assessing what children know.
Students will be reading with a reading interventionist to determine basic literacy skill level
and letter recognition. First graders will also participate in MAP testing (Measures of
Academic Achievement) beginning Sept. 9. These scores will be shared with you
during October conferences.
At this time, all parents need to remain outside the fence and off the playground in the morning. Thank you for respecting the safety of our students! You are always welcome to stand with your child outside the fence and have them join the line when they head inside during our morning parade.
IMPORTANT! Parents are not allowed to park in the back of the building when coming to pick up your child at the end of the day! Please park in the regular parking lot and walk around the building to retrieve your child. Thank you!
Don't forget to call our attendance line if your child will be late or absent! 987.2675.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Lowell Area Schools does not provide student accident insurance. As a service to students and their families, Lowell Area Schools has coordinated the ability for families to purchase student accident insurance plan through FIRST AGENCY, INC for any enrolled child in grades Pre-K thru 12, at a very nominal cost. The most basic plan covers your child while s/he is at school and involved in supervised events (classroom, halls, playground, etc), this plan excludes interscholastic sports. This plan costs $62 for the year. Plan purchase options allow for additional coverage, up to 24-hours including interscholastic sports, except grades 9-12 football, for an annual maximum amount of $290. Some plans offer extended dental coverage as well. Grade 9-12 football participation insurance is available as a stand-alone policy for $390 for the 2019 season.
These plans would be a secondary plan to any other insurance your child may be covered by. If you have no insurance at all for your child, this is an opportunity to provide at least a base level of coverage during the school day. Plans will provide benefits for medical expenses incurred because of an accident. Deductibles and co-pays in your current health plan require you to pay out of pocket costs first, while these plans allow benefits to be applied to your deductible or co-pays.
For more information, or to purchase coverage, go to https://www.1stagency.com/mischools.php?num=139. Lowell Area Schools makes no warranty or guarantee on this insurance plan and is not responsible in the administering of benefits. We are not an agent of FIRST AGENCY, INC and receive no compensation, of any kind or form, for offering this service or any enrollments generated. Coverage does not become effective until the later of the date premium is received at First Agency, Inc. or the 1st day of school. All questions regarding this coverage should be directed to First Agency, Inc. @ (269) 381-6630.
