Bulldog Bites
YOUR WEEKLY UPDATE FROM THE SOUTH GLENS FALLS CSD
Dear SGF Families,
Happy Halloween Bulldogs! We have been getting into the spooky spirit here and we hope that everyone has a fun-filled weekend and a great time trick or treating on Monday.
We have several significant updates to get to this week.
Wellness Day
OWWMS reads Jason Reynolds' For Everyone
Getting crafty
Art time
South High students reading to children at Tanglewood
Moreau students worked on dream boards
Ballard principal Mr. Huchro took part in a stunt
What an absolute success our Autumn Wellness Day was on Tuesday! Students across our district participated in activities that focused on their physical, social, emotional and mental health.
Students could try their hand at several activities throughout the day at the high school. Golf, hiking, art, crafts, theater, music, writing, card games, puzzles and cooking were among the dozens of activities students could choose.
Over at Oliver W. Winch Middle School, the whole school read Jason Reynolds For Every One, a long-form poem. Students then did activities related to the book to further explore the topic.
Our elementary schools all got an exceptional visit from SGF alum Christian Arehart. Mr. Spector joined the BMX star and the duo spoke to students about the importance of never giving up on their dreams and working to achieve their goals. He also showed the kids some amazing tricks with this bike, including jumping his bike over a few staff members.
We thank Christian for taking the time to come and speak with our students. Seeing their faces light up at his presentation was a delight.
And of course, thank you to our amazing staff who went above and beyond to make this day such a success. It really speaks to the sense of community we have here at SGF that so many came together to share their knowledge and skills of such diverse topics.

Halloween Safety
Kids
Bring a flashlight or use the flashlight function on your phone to light your way.
Putting some reflective tape on it so drivers can see you better. Carrying or wearing a glow stick is also a great way to ensure you are seen.
Wear comfortable shoes. You don’t want to miss out because your feet hurt.
Test your costume out. If it is too long, consider cutting off a little bit of the bottom or having a family member hem it.
Have an allergy? Avoid eating candy until a parent or guardian has checked it to ensure the food is free of any possible allergens.
NEVER GET INTO A CAR WITH A DRIVER WHO HAS BEEN DRINKING.
BE ALERT FOR CARS! We know you are excited, but remember that drivers need time to react. Wait until the road is clear before crossing. If available, use the crosswalk and remember to always cross with the light.
Wear makeup and hats rather than costume masks that can obscure your vision.
Have a food allergy? Be sure to check your candy for possible allergens.
Drivers and passengers:
Be extra vigilant! Know that excited children can dart into the street, so slow down, turn your headlights on and be prepared to stop quickly.
If you are driving, PUT THE PHONE DOWN. Consider turning off the radio to get rid of any distractions. If you are a passenger, do not distract the driver.
NEVER DRIVE AFTER HAVING ALCOHOLIC DRINKS.
NEVER GET INTO A CAR WITH A DRIVER WHO HAS BEEN DRINKING.
Perhaps consider staying home once the trick-or-treating starts. The fewer cars on the road, the safer trick-or-treaters will be.
Parents/Guardians:
Always accompany younger children. Halloween is exciting, and younger kids can sometimes forget safety on their quest for fun.
If your older child is going out with friends with no adult chaperone, plot a route in advance that you approve of, and have a time they need to be home by.
Consider having no food items to give to children with allergies or sensory differences. Some fun ideas from the Teal Pumpkin Project: mini Play-Doh, glow sticks, bracelets, pencils, crayons, bubbles, mini slinkies, bouncy balls, coins, spider rings, bookmarks, stickers.
Keep your furry friends safe. Put them in a secure room with the door closed. Lots of strangers ringing the doorbell can be stressful to some animals. So be considerate of their feelings and keep them separated from the action.
Make sure they have a well-fitting collar with their name and information in case the worst happens and they run away.
Writing Celebration
Mrs. Macey’s class at Moreau Elementary School held a First Grade Writing Celebration on Friday. Guests from MES were invited to join Mrs. Macey’s class as they celebrated what they’re learning about writing. Stories were shared, and refreshments were enjoyed. It was a fun morning in first grade.
Congratulations to our writers! You are all doing wonderfully!
