Students of the Month
LTMS congratulates our Student of the Month nominees for the month of October. These students are respectful (role models to their peers), responsible (take personal accountability), kind (helpful to others) and courageous (strive to improve well-being of others)!
Teacher of the Month
LTMS congratulates Mrs. Puderbach, our 7th grade science teacher, for being nominated as Teacher of the Month for October. She was described by her students as nice, happy to help everyone, and teaches fun lessons. Mrs. Puderbach reminds students, "It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." - Dumbledore
After School Program
LTMS offers a two-tier remediation program to assist students with a variety of needs, including (1) students failing current courses, and (2) students who have been basic or below basic on diagnostics, benchmarks and PSSA exams. In addition to our daily academic support program each day from 2:40 - 3:00 PM, our After School Program began on Monday, October 17th and runs 3:00 - 3:30 PM Monday - Thursday. Focus on math is on Monday/Tuesday and focus on ELA is on Wednesday/Thursday.
If you are interested in signing up your student, please fill out our survey and contact our school counselor, Mrs. Preisch at kpreisch@loyalsocklancers.org with any questions.
Learning Hub's & Team Leaders
We are hopeful our learning hub's will enable success for each student and family particularly when absences arise. If you wish to conference in the future, please reach out to individual teachers or grade level team leaders directly. We will have an opportunity for scheduled conferences on Tuesday, November 22th. More details below!

Parent Teacher Fall Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are a critical part of the partnership we have built between students, parents, and teachers. They are a time for celebration, planning, sharing, and focusing on the growth of our students. On Tuesday, November 22nd (afternoon and evening), we will be holding a combination of in person and phone conferences. You have the option of choosing your desired conference type with an individual teacher or team of teachers.
Signups for conferences will go live on Friday, November 11th at 3:00 PM and close on Friday, November 18th at 8:00 AM. To facilitate the process of signing up for conferences, we will use a somewhat familiar web program: MyConferenceTime. More information will be shared with families next week!

Optical illusion art
Seventh grade art students created “worm tubes” using a value scale (showing highlights, mid tones, and shadows). They focused on creating form through value and a variety of lines.
The eight grade art classes created the “vortex illusions” using the same values and lines but focusing on creating movement and visual flow.

Spooktacular Concert
On Wednesday, October 26th our 6th grade and 7/8th grade bands performed a Halloween concert for friends and family in the auditorium. They did a spooktacular job!
MANUFACTURING LANTURNS
To create the lanterns, students were required to review work in the CorelDraw software, which is an industry leader in design technology. They had to follow dimensioned instructions to create the side panels, base, and interior candle holder, thus introducing them to a form of CAD, or Computer Aided Design. Once the panels were laid out, students were tasked with designing the cutout section of the lanterns, requiring them to think about what was to be cut out, what would stay as support, and what would be visible once the lantern was activated. They also had to pay particular attention to line type and colors as they were designing, as the equipment requires certain specifications to complete different tasks (cutting, scoring or engraving).
After an approved design (four different designs, one for each panel) was completed, students saved and uploaded their designs into the laser software, properly placed materials, adjusted settings within the system for those materials, and then ran the program to cut out the lantern’s structural parts. Once the lanterns were cut, students followed directions using various types of adhesives to line the interior of the lantern, and then assemble the lantern for use or display.
The purpose of the project was to give students an idea of the design process, working from concept to design, layout to manufacturing and finally assembly. While each of the students worked their own design, it provided them with insight how items could be mass produced as well as individualized.

8th Grade Activities
Eighth grade students celebrated Halloween on Monday, October 31st. Students that met specific requirements had the opportunity to participate in a fun Halloween activity and watch a Halloween movie while enjoying fresh popped popcorn! Activities included Halloween bingo, a fun fact or fiction game, decorating pumpkins, and playing a Salem witch card game.
In Reading classes, students celebrated our study of Edgar Allan Poe by participating in Reader's Theater using scripts of his most famous works. The decor in the classroom helped build the suspense as students read aloud.
Twisted Tales
The seven finalists for our school competition are hanging in the B hallway. Eighth grade students, faculty, and staff will vote on the finalists until Friday, November 4th.

Featured Coach - Fall
Mr. Micah Beiter is the head coach for the middle school cross country team. He is a Loyalsock alumnus and ran cross country all four years in high school. This is his first year coaching cross country. His favorite part of working with the runners is the positive energy they bring to each practice and seeing them improve their times throughout the season. Coach Beiter loves seeing his runners finish the race with determination and seeing them smile after running a great race.
Marching Band
Featured here are some of our 8th grade students performing at the Lycoming County Band Directors Association Marching Band Exhibition, “Don't Stop Believing"!
Best of luck to our Lancer Marching Band members as they have spent all fall competing in Tournament of Bands contests throughout the region, and will travel to Hershey for the Cavalcade of Bands Championships on Sunday, November 13th.
