COMING SOON!!! WALK&TALK FOR YOUNG 5'S - The October 9th Event Will Be For Our Y5's Group Only
On Wednesday, October 9, we would like you (parent, grandparent, aunt, significant adult) and your Young 5's student (ONLY) to join us to get the morning off to a great start. Walk&Talk will start at 8:30 am. Here are some details:
The fun: We want you to come with your child, enjoy a doughnut hole and a bottle of water, and take a few laps around our 1/18th mile track.
Along the way: Talk with your student about a topic of THEIR interest (we'll have a few ideas for you). Enjoy the outdoors and get those minds and bodies going. We want our students to walk the track (no running) with a significant adult and spend a bit of time in conversation (this is very important for children).
Children: MUST be accompanied by an adult.
Who's invited: This event is for Young 5's ONLY (we will have separate Walk&Talks for K and 1st). This is a special time for these students to spend 1-to-1 time with an important adult in their life.
Doughnut holes and water: Provided by WEPA
Time: treats and walking: from 8:30-8:50
Where: enter the playground area through the east gate and walk to the track
End: Finish at 8:50. Students will enter the building through the side door and wait for school to start in the hallway.
Adults have a special event, too: Significant adults are invited to attend the Equipping Parents Workshop in the Media Center @ 9:00 am. Guest speaker Tracy Trautner from MSU. Topic: Children and Screen Time.
FYI - Baker Elementary houses 10 classes of preschool, 4 classes of Y5s, 7 classes of Kindergarten and 5 classes of 1st grade. We have a total of over 400 kids every day at Baker Elementary. To keep our special events safe and manageable, we must divide our students up by grade level to help accommodate all potential visitors to our building.
PLAN AHEAD - HALF DAYS FOR ALL WUS SCHOOLS
THESE DAYS ALL TAKE PLACE ON WEDNESDAY
OCTOBER 30DECEMBER 11
JANUARY 29
MARCH 18
APRIL 29
Students will be dismissed at noon. The doors for pick up will open at 12:00. An adult should be outside and waiting at 12:00. Please arrange for half day dismissals. If your child is going to have a change of routine - please let the teacher, the office and the bus garage know at least a week in advance. This will help keep this day from being complete chaos.
FYI - NO Dress Up Days for Homecoming
Parent /Teacher Conferences
Please watch for forms, parent portal notices or reminder emails to sign up so you do not miss the opportunity to conference with your child's teacher.
Kelso's Choice
This week at Baker Elementary students were taught conflict resolution skills in the Young 5’s, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade classrooms. Conflicts and disagreements are normal when young students get together. However, hurtful words, gestures, or physically aggressive behaviors are unacceptable ways to deal with conflict and disagreements at school.
This week our school social worker went into each classroom to teach students several positive ways to deal with conflicts that happen while at school. First the students were taught the difference between big problems and little problems. Students were reminded that they need an adults help to solve big problems but they can try to solve little problems, on their own or with the help of Kelso and Lilly, our friendly frogs!
Kelso and his friend Lilly have nine positive ways to deal with conflicts at school.
Go to another game or activity.
Share and take turns.
Talk it out with friends.
Walk away from the problem.
Ignore the problem behavior.
Ask the person to stop the problem behavior.
Apologize.
Make a deal or compromise.
Wait and cool off.
Kelso’s Choice Wheel is posted in each classroom and all around the school to help students remember these positive ways to solve little problems. Ask your students over the weekend if they can tell you some of Kelso’s problem solving skills!
Peach Colored Emergency Forms
All students in the family can be on the same peach colored form. These were sent home in backpacks this week for students who are still missing the form.
