Message from the Principal
I hope everyone had a great first three weeks of the new year!
We are looking for parent volunteers to help with our Girls on the Run Program. It is a program that will run 2 days a week this spring for girls in grade 3-5. Girls on the run promotes the social emotional well being of girls while preparing them for a 5K run. We have teachers and staff members that have volunteered, but we need a few more. If you can give a few hours twice a week after school this spring please reach out to Mrs. Small
Kindergarten and Pre-K Registration is now open. If you have a child entering school, please be sure to register ASAP. If you know of anyone in town that has a child entering Pre-K/K, please spread the word.
Valentine's Day will be celebrated on February 14th. Students can bring in non-edible items to share with their classmates. There will not be a party for this holiday. Food and/or candy is not permitted to be distributed to students and will be sent home or asked to be picked up (if your child takes the bus) should they come into school. I appreciate your time with this.
Fifth grade parents, you may have noticed more homework coming home each night. Parents of students at MOMS, we thank you for your feedback on the drastic difference between the amount of fifth grade homework to the amount of sixth grade homework. You will notice that your child will be bringing home Math and ELA homework daily as well as Science and Social Studies often. This is two-fold: to practice skills and to prepare them for middle school.
Prompted by Read Across America, we will have a schoolwide reading incentive for March that will carry into the rest of the year. Each grade level will have a monthly reading logs and a Book Showcase of Choice Boards to complete. We have also noticed that many students still struggle with knowing their basic math facts. We will be adding fact practice to our incentive for March and throughout the remainder of the year. More information to come from your classroom teachers.
Next week we will celebrate the 100th day of school and the 1000th day of school for our fifth graders. There are many fun activities planned for our students!
As always, I ask that you follow proper arrival and dismissal procedures. Parking on Clover Hill Drive (anywhere but directly in front of the school) is not allowed by town ordinance. It makes it difficult for buses to see and safely enter/exit the lot. There are many cars parked here each morning. I do ask for your help, as this is a safety concern.
Also, we needed to open our gazebo lot for Staff Parking Only. The handicap spot is for staff and students that require it. Parents cannot park or pull into this lot for arrival or dismissal. All other parents, please drop off in the carline, use the parking in front of the building or on the side streets. I greatly appreciate your time with this matter.
Enjoy the weekend!
