Curriculum Updates and Activities
Weekly Math Update
For several weeks, students have continued to learn and polish a variety of strategies of adding as well as subtracting numbers up to 200. Reading tricky word problems will be practiced continually, as the wording can be difficult. The unit continues for two more weeks.
Weekly Social Studies Update
We're enjoying our new social studies unit about "Qatar, Then & Now." Students brainstormed using a T-chart about what it was like in Qatar 100 years ago, and what it is like now. They listed food/drink, jobs, transportation, celebrations, shelter, etc. Lots of background knowledge came out and the kids are excited. We'll also learn about Qatar's geography. Soon we'll study pearl diving and other trades.
Weekly Reading and Writing Update
Reading and Writing: Students are doing their final revision and editing of their realistic fiction stories. We are continuing to "show, not tell" in our writing. In word study we're learning more about homophones like "two," "to" and "too." We made clever drawings with homophones to show our thinking.
