The New Guy's Observations: Week 4
This week is one of the biggest weeks of our school year. While ISTEP is not the end of the world it is an important indicator of our success. I know each of you have worked hard to support your colleagues as we've prepared for this moment. Good luck to each of you. Please cheer on those ELA, math, science, and social studies teachers as they step into the arena. One of my favorite statements in history and something that holds true for this week...

HALLWAY SUPERVISION LOCATIONS ARE CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW. NEW ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE SHARED BEFORE SPRING BREAK. Until then please continue to do a great job with our students. See the quote that echos my thoughts...

As we continue the school year it is imperative that we all ensure our hallway supervision is focused and above par. Some of my expectations for hallway supervision are:- Be consistent, calm, and respectful. Your energy will determine their energy.
- Be present and attentive. Your awareness helps our success.
- Find the greatness; praise the greatness.
- Be on time to your locations. If that is outside of your room or a specific location in the building. Your presence is necessary for their safety and our schools climate.
Hallway behavior can easily spill over into the classroom. We must all be diligent in helping stop negative behavior during all passing periods. Please help maintain a positive atmosphere during every passing period. As I continue evaluating our processes I will be looking for trouble spots and areas of concern to help us improve student behavior in the hallways. We may need to reevaluate hallway supervision positions and responsibilities. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Electronics at East
*************UNDER CRITICAL REVIEW*************
The discipline committee reviewed discipline data and teacher input on student electronic usage. It was found that electronic hallway expectations needed a refresher and also to be PBIS defined. The following are the expectations of Electronics at East.1. Electronics are not in use when leaving a classroom or the cafeteria this included no swiping/scrolling.
2. Electronics are not in use when leaving a classroom or the cafeteria this means they are put away securely or face down while being carried back to your locker.
3. Electronics are not in use when leaving a classroom or the cafeteria and this also includes headphones/ear buds. Make sure these are off your ears and head.
4. Electronics are not in use when leaving a classroom or the cafeteria and this means no texting, facetime, sending snaps, insta updates and much more.
5. Electronics are not in use when leaving a classroom or the cafeteria and this means not taking pictures. Be polite and respectful when taking pictures with your electronics, ask permission.
Consequences:
First Offense: Electronic is confiscated and sent to the Front Office. You may pick up your phone at the end of the day.
Second Offense: Electronic is confiscated and sent to the Office and an After school detention is assigned.
Third Offense: Electronic is confiscated and sent to the Office and a Friday Night School is assigned.
Fourth Offense: Electronic is confiscated and sent to the Office and a day of in-school suspension is assigned. You will also have to check your electronic in at the Front Office each day and then you may pick it up before you leave to go home each day.

ISTEP+ Materials
On the days you are administering ISTEP+, please make sure to pick up your materials in the office between 6:45am-7:00am. You will return your materials daily between 2:15-2:30pm. Your materials need to be turned in the same way they are given to you. Please remember that your materials are secured materials.
Counselor Sign Up Process
Counselor Request Forms are now 100% electronic. Students can sign up to speak with a counselor from any device that has internet access. Chromebooks are set up in the office for students to make a request. Teachers: you can save this link on your computer or ipad, and students can sign up directly from your room! As always, if a student is in crisis they will be seen by a counselor immediately.
Child Abuse & Duty to Report
An individual who has reason to believe that a child is a victim of abuse or neglect shall make a report to DCS or local law enforcement immediately. This applies to every staff member in the building. Please review the Child Abuse & Duty to Report information by clicking here.
