PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Yesterday we hosted several Catholic schools from the Diocese competing in sports and special character activities. The event went particularly well in spite of the weather. The behaviour of children attending was exemplary. The games were played in such good spirit. We received so much positive feedback on how well the event was organised.
I would like to heap praise and thanks on our parent community for helping with the set up, overseeing activities on the day and the tidy up. You were all awesome. Thank you.
Thanks to Leanne who helped coordinate the sports events and Bernie Hall, the Special Character events. Thanks also to students from JPC who officiated at the games, helped with administration and judged the cultural events; they were all amazing.
Thanks to the children and parents of the children from the Totara team who ran the food stall.
Also a big thanks to Patrick Walsh for allowing us to use JPC’s facilities. It was a perfect venue and we were lucky to have Arthur Faulkner (JPC Sports Coordinator) who liaised with us before and during the day. Thanks also to JPC’s caretaker Lockie Beckham and his assistant Grant, for marking the fields for us. It does take a lot of people working together to run something like this, so thank you all again.
Our Kapa haka group along with JPC’s and St Michael’s welcomed the schools yesterday, and again today at the Novotel, they welcomed all the Principals and DRS’s from the Hamilton Diocese to their conference. I was very proud of the children’s performance, they did an excellent job. Thanks also to Wiki Wilson and Koro Tini for speaking on our behalf and coordinating the three Kapa Haka groups.
We welcome Andi, the Nutritionist from Foodstuffs who is working with the Totara Team children. The theme is Food for Thought. The programme is excellent and as part of the programme the children will be visiting the supermarket and analysing the labels on food packaging. A real eye opener for them.

Message from DRS Bernie Hall
Students have begun their focus on the Sacraments/Hakaremeta. Classes are defining what a Sacrament is- a channel of God’s grace, and a way for God to help us and for us to help others. Sacraments have been instituted by Christ.
This week we also celebrate the Ascension of Jesus. The Ascension of Jesus is Christian teaching that Christ physically departed from Earth by rising into Heaven, in the presence of eleven of his apostles. According to the New Testament narrative, the Ascension occurred forty days after the resurrection.
In the Christian tradition, reflected in the major Christian creeds and confessional statements, God exalted Jesus after his death, raising him from the dead and taking him to Heaven, where Jesus took his seat at the right hand of God.
Our Ascension Liturgy is 12:15 in the hall Thursday -all welcome.

PB4L is a Ministry of Education initiative which was developed to help NZ schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life. A key part of this for our school is having our school values at the very heart of the way we live and learn at St.Mary’s.
