Family Newsletter

December 13, 2021

Dear Twin Oaks Families,

We were very excited to see a few snowflakes fall from the sky this morning. We never know when snow might appear in the Willamette Valley. Included in this newsletter is information that will be very helpful if you wake up one morning and and there is snow or ice.

Twin Oaks TOSA Zoom Meeting: Our December TOSA Meeting is scheduled for tomorrow/Tuesday, December 14th, 7:00-8:00pm. Included in this newsletter are notes from the November meeting. We encourage all of our families to join the TOSA Meetings. All meetings are via Zoom this year which is making it easier for many of our families.

Winter Weather: Snow Day Information

When winter weather arrives, schools may be closed or delayed or buses may use snow routes. These decisions are made by the school district early in the morning and are the same for every 4J school.

Snow day notifications: Our school district communicates any decision to change school or bus schedules as quickly as possible in several ways, all well before 6:30 a.m.

How to find out if there is a change:

  • Text message from the district (if you are not currently receiving occasional text messages with important information from 4J, learn how)
  • Check the district website, www.4j.lane.edu
  • Follow 4J on social media: Facebook, Twitter @4Jweather & @4Jschools
  • Tune in to local radio and television news stations

No news = No change. If schools and buses are on their regular schedule, there will NOT be an announcement.

For more information, please see www.4j.lane.edu/weather.

Twin Oaks Community Service Projects

During the months of November and December our classrooms are engage in Service Learning Projects. Our teachers and students have identified projects that support our community. They are learning the importance of being an active agent of change and the benefits of helping others. This week we are highlighting the service learning project that Mrs. Riggs and her second graders completed.

Birthday Bags for a Food Pantry

The families in room 7 donated cake mix, frosting, candles, birthday banners, birthday stickers and other celebratory miscellaneous items to our project. Students decorated birthday bags and we then stuffed them with all the birthday treats! Mrs. Riggs will be delivering them to a local food pantry on behalf of room 7 second graders & their families. Room 7 was so proud to participate in the kindness campaign and their hearts grew as they learned how to give to others selflessly.
