It's Education Week!!!
This week is Education Week. Unfortunately, the events that had been planned for this week were cancelled, as they were all due to happen on school site.
The theme for Education Week is ‘Lifelong Learners’.
Lifelong learning embodies all learning activities undertaken throughout life, with the aim of improving knowledge, skills and competences.
We (students, parents and staff) are all developing new skills to facilitate and support our students to learn online. We are all showing what it takes to be a lifelong learner.
To celebrate and acknowledge everyone in our school community being a lifelong learner, we have created a video from the 'learning from home' photos you have shared with us.
Thank you to the families who sent in photos of your children engaged in learning from home.
We hope you enjoy watching this video.
Learning From Home
- Google Classroom (GC) is the online platform we are using to assign students their learning from home content
- Student work in GC will be uploaded at 7am each morning
- Teachers will be monitoring your child's GC at the following times - 9:00am to 11:00am; 11:30am to 1:00pm; and 2:00pm to 3:00pm
- Must do learning tasks - we will highlight two learning activities each day that we would like your child to complete. There will be one literacy task and one maths task to complete each day.
- Other learning tasks - the rest of the activities in your child’s Google Classroom (GC) Slides are there for those who can manage more.
- Teachers will respond to student work, and questions and comments made by students as soon as they can. However they may be juggling multiple tasks and may not be able to respond within an hour. We appreciate your understanding and patience.
- As always, please contact the school at any time if you require assistance with learning from home. We will have an appropriate member of staff get in touch with you at their earliest convenience.
We're Proud of the Effort You're Putting into your Online Work!
Our WHPS teachers have been SO impressed with the effort and work that our students have been completing and submitting in their Google Classrooms over the past two weeks, that they have been sending me many emails to share their excitement.
To acknowledge the effort of these students, I have been sending them a message on a piece of work they have submitted in their Google Classroom ... and they have been rewarded with a Principal's Gold Token.
I promise to hand the tokens to students when we all return to face-to-face teaching at school.
Great work everyone!!!
Every Friday is Dress-Up Day
To make things a little bit of fun for everyone, every Friday during Learning From Home will be dress-up day.
This Friday 30 July is OLYMPIC dress-up day.
Students, parents and staff are encouraged to dress-up in the colours of the Olympic rings, as an Olympic athlete, in your favourite sporting team uniform or anything else creative to do with the Olympics.
We would love families to share their dress-up day photos every Friday by emailing them to the school so that we can share the following week with the WHPS community.
I would like to personally thank our parents and carers who are front line, essential and critical workers who continue to go to work everyday (following NSW Health orders) despite the risks you face. I understand the conflicting sense of care, safety and duty you would have towards your family and work ... and I thank you for doing what you do to help everyone in our community.
Please stay safe, keep smiling and remember to follow the latest health advice!

News from our Library
It is great to see we currently have 310 members in the Library Google classroom.
There are various ‘how to’ slides available to remind students about OLIVER library, World Book online and the PRC. The code for the Library Google classroom is available from the school office.
This week we celebrate Education Week. In the library we are hoping to repeat the success of last year’s online Book Donations. A note is being prepared and students will be able to select a book for donation when classes resume.
PRC All Kindergarten students have now completed the challenge. For students in Years 1-6 there are only 4 weeks to go! Students in Years 3 - 6 should be now entering their PRC book numbers online, access through your Orbit page in OLIVER Library. Students in Years 1 and 2 who have completed OR almost completed the PRC should scan and email student’s reading record to the school email asap.
Book Character Dress-up Day is planned for Thursday 9th September. More information will follow.
Thank you for your continued support.
