PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
Dear Arleta Families and Guardians,
We’re excited to timestamp your beautiful children next Thursday for picture day! Please look for the packet that came home in backpacks this week or go to mydorian.com.
And, it was so much fun seeing children play on our new SS Arleta this week! Our Kindergarten Team officially opened up our wonderful new catalyst for imaginative play with a ribbon cutting ceremony before the first recess on Monday, then other grade levels followed. Ask your child what they’ve heard about it or played, and we’d love to hear your, or their, thoughts and ideas! Such a special thank you to our Kindergarten Innovation Team and our dedicated, visionary, skilled and creative Contractor-PTA President- parent volunteer Carrie Bowers (and her fantastic co-partners Jeremy and Emery) for building it. Play bark for the inside of the boat and the play structure should be arriving any day.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Lisa
Picture Day next Thursday!

NEWS & EVENTS
HISPANIC & LATINX HERITAGE MONTH
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

UPDATED! PPS/PTA CLOTHING CENTER - VOLUNTEER + SIGN UP TO SHOP - OCT 5
The PTA Clothing Center will be open to Arleta families on Thursday, October 5th, from 10am to 5pm at the Marshall (Benson HS) Campus. The PTA Clothing Center is a resource available to all PPS families hoping to find new and gently used clothing for their children. If you would like to 'shop' at the Clothing Center for free, or would like more information about the Clothing Center, please reach out to your school counselor to make a referral - Ms. Blei (K-2 counselor): jeblei@pps.net or Ms. Aud (3-5 counselor): aumanansala@pps.net
We also need 4-5 volunteers to help families select clothes and sort donations. Please sign up as a volunteer for this fun and valuable role! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0C4BA5A92FA2F58-ppspta2
PICTURE DAY IS COMING - SEPT. 28
Picture day information and online ordering is available by visiting mydorian.com. Search for your "Arleta Elementary", and click on the green Order button or yellow Help button associated with your picture day. You can order online now and for up to four (4) days after picture day. New this year - All students will receive a class picture whether they order prints or not!
Here are some helpful tips to make picture day great!
- Schedule haircuts 7-10 days prior to picture day!
- Wear simple clothing. Solid shirts or small patterns, along with sleeves, photograph best.
- Avoid logos and text on clothing. Graphics or wording may not photograph completely and can become partially cropped out of your picture.
SURVEY: ARLETA NEEDS CHECK-IN - COMPLETE BY OCT 13
Welcome back to another school year Arleta community! We had a great Back to School Night meeting with families where we released our yearly Arleta Needs Check-In. If you haven’t had a chance to fill it out yet, please do so here! We are hoping to learn more about your child’s social emotional well-being to better inform our school counseling program this year. We also offer a space for you to let us know of any community resources your family may be seeking. The survey will be available until October 13th, and we hope to hear from our whole community.
Thank you for taking the time to check-in. If you have any further questions about our counseling program, you can find more information on our website and please feel free to reach out to your Arleta Counseling Team!

NEW! DINE OUT AT ATE-OH-ATE TO SUPPORT ARLETA - SEPT 25
On Monday, Sept. 25th, take a night off from cooking and head over to Ate-oh-Ate on Woodstock for a "Dine Out" to support Arleta. Ate-oh-Ate will donate 20% of sales to Arleta when you eat in or get take out from 4-10pm. Enjoy some delicious Hawaiian food and drinks, while supporting a local business and Arleta!

The Green Team's Tracy Hulleman hosts a litter pick up every 2nd & 4th Thursday at 8am. If you have 15-20 minutes after drop off, come get a bucket and grabbers by the picnic tables and get some steps in while cleaning up the school grounds!
PTA FAMILY NIGHT SUCCESS!
HALLOWEEN COSTUME SWAP - OCT 6
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MOVIE NIGHTS
The PTA hosts movie nights 3-4 times during the year and we are looking for some grown ups who can help put on these fun events. They are typically on a Friday evening and take about 4 hours from start to finish. Tasks involve setting up the cafeteria with the AV equipment and concessions, running concessions, and then putting the space back to it's original set-up. You'll get all the training you need, free popcorn, and the satisfaction of knowing you hosted something special for our school community!
Please consider helping out! Email ArletaSchoolPTA@gmail.com
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED DURING LUNCH & RECESS
We are looking for 2-3 volunteers each day from 10:45am to 12:30pm to help monitor the playground and assist in the lunch room. This is a fun way to get to know the students and staff! Can you commit to one day a week, or an occasional showing?
Check out the sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0C4BA5A92FA2F58-lunch1
