We will have an attendance incentive for the month of November for only our Mavericks students; students that meet the following requirements will be able to attend a "party" when we attend the field trip. The requirements are as follows (and begin Friday and end the day before the field trip)
- Be in attendance each day
- Accumulate no more than two tardies in their core classes
Veterans Day
Our team would like to give our upmost thanks and overall appreciation to our Maverick parents and family members that have served our country. After all, every day should be Veterans Day!
Here is a link about the history of Veteran's Day so that you can discuss this important day with your child:
Math- Today we are learning how to translate figures in the coordinate plane. Students are discovering the algebraic rules of translations through observations. I took the worksheet we worked on during class for a grade.
Math Announcements: Unit 3 Transformations starts this week! Students were given Unit 3, Week 1 homework on Monday. This homework is not over the new material, but only over unit 1 and unit 2 material. Thus, the students know all of the material on the homework. The homework is due on Friday. Unit 3, Quiz 1 is on Friday.
Science- In science this week, students are beginning a project in which they are creating a geologic timeline of Earth’s past. They will be researching the thriving organisms for each time period and drawing them into the time line. Students will also be researching major events in Earth’s past (such as the mass extinction of dinosaurs) and drawing those into the timeline. Each centimeter on the timeline will represent 2 million years of Earth’s history.
Social Studies- Today we are studying the Preamble.
English Language Arts -Today students are taking their quiz and i-Ready diagnostic assessment.
**I will note that many students, despite several reminders, did not study for our quiz and realized that once they received their quiz score right after the test. Students do not know this yet, but I will allow them to retake the test Friday (I will tell them tomorrow). Also, my 3rd and 4th hour students have received progress reports for my class and my 5th and 6th hours will receive theirs tomorrow. Students may ALWAYS turn in late work or make corrections on any work and turn it in to be regraded.
Reminders
A new Scholastic catalogue is out! If you wish to look at the catalogue online or wish to order online, see the link at the bottom of this page.
EDP Session 2: The link below is that of the EDP form for Session 2. When completing the form, please make sure you prioritize the choices (1st, 2nd, 3rd choice). A few new notes about EDP Session 2: 1) Students cannot stay the day the day that they turn in their form because the form needs to be processed. They may stay the day after they turn in the form. 2) The following clubs are now closed (students cannot be added into these clubs anymore): Yoga, computer games, Fit club Thursday, Hip Hop Dance.

I-Ready The I-Ready program provides students with lessons and assessments to strengthen their knowledge Math and ELA concepts. The Math and ELA teachers use this program in class frequently, and will use the students' scores on the assessments that follow the lessons in their grade books. We strongly encourage students working on lessons at home if possible. The student username is the student's ID #@nkcschools.org (123456@nkcschools.org, for example) and the password is the student's birthdate (MMDDYYYY).
PowerSchool Be sure to sign up for a Parent Portal account! From this account you can view student's grades and attendance. Don't have a parent portal account?
