Noteworthy: Sherwood Virtual Thanksgiving Balloon Parade
Thank you to all of our Sherwood families who participated in our Family STEAM Pajama Story Time Event and made balloon floats. Shout out to our amazing librarian, Helen Weiss, for organizing such an engaging reading night which inspired an innovative and creative STEAM activity! It's wonderful to see shared excitement and so much participation as a Sherwood community.

Standards Based Grading Family Guide
K-5 Report Cards will be mailed home today. We continue to use a standards based grading system in North Shore School District 112 at the elementary level. Below is some information that may be helpful as you review your child's report card.
- Standards based grading communicates how students perform on a set of clearly defined learning targets called standards. The purpose of standards based grading is to identify what a student knows or is able to do, in relation to those learning targets - as opposed to simply averaging grades/scores over the course of the grading period, which can mask what a student has learned or not learned.
- A student's performance on a series of assessments (informal and formal) will be used to determine overall mastery, much as it has in the past. The difference will be reporting of mastery levels instead of numbers or letters ("Learning" instead of "B"). Levels of achievement are defined and each grade level standard is expected to be mastered at the end of the school year. Practice assignments and homework serve primarily as a source of feedback and instructional support for both students and teachers.
- Mastered would indicate a student has independently achieved the standard.
- Learning would indicate that the student is developing an understanding of the standard but may need additional instruction and/or support from the teacher.
- Introduced would indicate a student is in beginning phases of being taught the standard however, the student has not yet been assessed.
- Not Introduced would indicate the standard has not yet been taught.
Please feel free to reach out to your teacher or me (rfilippi@nssd112.org) if you have any questions. Thanks!

D112 PTO Council Virtual Food Drive for Moraine Township Food Pantry
During this challenging year, the Moraine Township Food Pantry needs our support more than ever. Each year our PTO does multiple food drives.
The food pantry is not able to accept physical food donations at this time so please consider making a monetary donation equal to what you would typically spend on our PTO food drives.
You can make a credit card donation at: https://www.morainetownship.org/super/pantry.html.
Thank you for your support of our community!
We NEED YOU!
The Sherwood PTO needs a few parent volunteers. If you are interested in finding out more, PLEASE let us know! You don't need to make a huge commitment. Every little bit of help really makes a difference in the amount, and quality of help, we can provide to Sherwood and our students. It's also a great way to get to know some other parent volunteers. Please consider donating a small amount of your time this year. THANK YOU!
For information, or to volunteer, please reach out to one of your PTO Co-Presidents:
