VISUAL
VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art & The George Bernard Shaw Theatre is a dynamic multi-disciplinary arts facility presenting the best of local, national, and international work in the visual and performing arts.
Standing in a strategic location in the centre of Carlow Town in the grounds of Carlow College, it rivals its contemporaries in New York, Berlin or Tokyo in terms of its scale and contemporary architecture.
VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art & The George Bernard Shaw Theatre offers a range of facilities which can be used for corporate, community and schools hire.
We in Co Carlow Chamber recently held our annual awards ceremony in Visual and it proved to be a stunning venue which added greatly to one of our most successful Chamber events of recent times.
The George Bernard Shaw Theatre is available to hire for performances and rehearsals, cinema, lectures, meetings, seminars, a dance practice area (the stage area is fully sprung) and much more. It is fully equipped with a state of the art technical specification as well as full backstage facilities with two en-suite dressing rooms, a green room with kitchenette including washer & dryer and audio show relay from the stage. In addition a further rehearsal room is available off the backstage area for meetings, workshops, readings etc.
Where the visual arts programme allows, the galleries can be used to host receptions, talks, ceremonies, photo-shoots, and many other possibilities. The Link Gallery is a perfect location for any corporate reception, award ceremony or photo-shoot.
VISUAL operates a sliding scale of hire rates which are applied individually to events and are calculated to be as fair and reasonable as possible. Rates are set based on ticket prices & numbers for events, the organisation’s capacity to pay, the purpose and nature of the event and so on.
SHOP LOCAL INITIATIVE
We would like to invite all local independent retailers to an information evening about a unique ‘Shop Local’ initiative that is running successfully now in a number of towns across the country and has now expanded into the UK.
County Carlow Chamber is committed to seeking ways of supporting independent retailers that will encourage local shopping and loyalty to both long established and new retailing outlets.
Anything that can help has to be welcomed and we hope you will come along to hear the presentation and then make up your own minds as to whether you wish to take part.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday July 29th at 6pm in Teach Dolmain. Refreshments will be served.
Exciting News for Walsh Whiskey and Carlow
July 2014
The €25 million distillery to be developed at the site at Royal Oak has been granted planning permission and work is to commence in September and construction to be complete by December 2015. The long-term plan envisages a the development of a world-class, independent, craft Irish whiskey distillery; maturation warehouses and a unique visitor experience by the banks of the River Barrow in Royal Oak. The planned distillery visitor centre will cater for 75,000 ‘whiskey tourists’ by 2021.
The expansion will create a total of 55 permanent and part-time jobs in the Carlow area, over 5 years, where the whiskies will be distilled, crafted and aged. In addition, the construction process will provide up to 40 jobs during the 18 month development phase. The Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, through Enterprise Ireland, is supporting this project.
