LMS Tiger Talk
April 22, 2022
#EveryTigerEveryDay
Principal’s Message
Another very busy week at school here at LMS this week! We finished up our state testing, with our 8th graders taking their last test on Thursday with the science assessment. While these days provide an adjusted bell schedule for us and take a lot of focus to start the day, our students did a great job, giving their best and applying all they've learned this year, and we appreciate their hard work! While these are important assessments and measures of our student's learning, it's always good to have these behind us :)
Final details for the upcoming Kings Island incentive trip can be found below. Please be sure to check those out if your child is going to be participating next Friday, 4/29. For any student not traveling, students will have a typical/awesome day at LMS.
Opening night of the spring drama production of Seussical Jr. kicked off last night at LMS and our students did an AMAZING job! There are two more shows this weekend, tonight at 7:00 pm and a Saturday matinee showing at 3:00 pm. Congratulations to all our students participating in the cast and crew and all the staff and families pitching in to help pull this off!
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone. The weather looks like it's going to be beautiful!
Go Tigers!

Kings Island Trip Information for 4/29
- Students that purchased tickets will receive them when we arrive at KI. Students with passes MUST have them with them on the day of the field trip.
- We will leave school on busses around 9 am to depart for the park.
- Students in LOVELAND SCHOOLS extracurriculars will leave on an "early" bus from KI to arrive back at the school in time for after-school activities.
- All other students will leave KI around 4:30 pm with an estimated return time to LMS at 5:00 pm when they will need to be picked up by their ride. We encourage families to have students keep them posted on arrival so that rides can be at the school on time.
- Students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch or money for lunch at KI. We will have sack lunches from the cafeteria for students who need one. The lunch will consist of a sandwich, a bag of chips, carrots, and a chocolate chip cookie.
- Students are expected to form groups (2+) to walk around the park. Students should remain in their groups for the entire day. All students will check in with a teacher at 1 of 4 locations (Eiffel Tower-side closest to fountain, FestHaus, The Beast entrance, or The Racer entrance) between 12-12:30 pm.
- For any student needing to leave the park early or planning to stay after at the park and not ride the bus home, students must turn in a note to the main office by Wednesday 4/27 at 2:30 pm. Parent notes will be confirmed by phone as well. Students are responsible for communicating with their parents the day of to arrange their pick-up/meet-up location. Any students walking out to the pick-up location in the parking lot are responsible for getting there on their own.
- Parents can not officially be chaperones; we cannot purchase extra tickets for parents and they are not able to ride school transportation. However, the park is open and parents could potentially enter using their own pass or by purchasing a ticket through Kings Island.
- In the event of an emergency at the park, first aid stations at Kings Island will have the numbers of the attending school administrators.
- For any student NOT going to Kings Island, it will be a normal school day.
- IMPORTANT: If your child takes medicine and/or has a health plan on file with the school, please reach out to Judy Leamy or Tonya Morrison in the LMS clinic so that plans can be arranged for the trip.

LMS Ending the Silence Presentations
Our 7th and 8th graders will have the opportunity to experience “Ending the Silence” presentations put on by the National Alliance On Mental Illness (NAMI) on Tuesday, May 3rd, and Wednesday, May 4th. These presentations will take place during Tiger Time.
In the Ending the Silence presentation, a lead presenter shares an informative presentation and a young adult with a mental health condition shares their journey of recovery. Both presenters share their own lived experiences either as an individual living successfully with a mental health difficulty or someone who loves and supports someone living with a mental health challenge.
The goal of these presentations is to spread a message of empathy and hope to encourage students to actively care for themselves and for their peers, by reaching out for help, encouraging a friend or family member to seek help, and reducing stigma. The goal of NAMI’s “Ending the Silence” is to create a generation of students who are well-positioned to end the silence and stigma surrounding mental illness.
Topics include:
- Signs and symptoms of mental illness and suicide (NAMI presenters will be sensitive to the age of our students when discussing these topics)
- Statistics on how mental illness affects youth
- Personal perspectives on the experience of living with mental illness
- Recovery and coping strategies and resources available
- Ways to seek help for themselves, or someone else
- Ways to help reduce the stigma associated with mental illness
- How COVID has impacted us and how to cope with our mental health as we move on
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our LMS Office Team.

Securly Parent Portal
With Chromebooks becoming an essential part of classroom instruction we want you to know that Loveland City Schools monitors what sites students are visiting and what content they’re searching for on school-issued devices.
We use a service called Securly, which alerts our district IT staff of questionable activities on school-issued devices, and provides the opportunity for follow-up if needed. This is covered in your technology agreement completed at the start of the school year.
Securly also provides a parent portal, which allows parents the ability to monitor their child’s online activity on their school-issued device. We are now making this available for parents to use at no cost. You can sign up for the Securly Parent Portal by following this link and completing a brief form.
To learn more about the services that the Securly Parent Portal offers, follow this link. If you have questions, please contact our district IT Systems Administrator John Lape at lapejo@lovelandschools.org.

LMS Tiger Nation -
This has been a fun, but a wet week for our LMS Tigers!!!
Here is a summary of a few of the awesome things that took place in Athletics this week:
The track team has had a busy week with 4 meets. The girls and boys both won the West Carrolton Relays on Monday. The girl 4x1 and 4x200 relay (Caroline Murnan, Leah Muri, Natalie Waple, and Ny'omi Hill) and the 4x400 relay (Caroline Murnan, Leah Muri, Natalie Waple, and Parker Mentzer) all set meet records.
The girls and boys teams also won the Tiger Invitational on Wednesday where many kids set personal records.
The boys and girls both won the highly competitive Kings Invitational and defeated GMC power Mason. Tyler Schwinn broke the school record in the 400 with a time of 52.90.
We have several kids who are ranked in the top 50 in the state right now!
The boys tennis team has improved to 4-2 on the season with 2 more wins this week. Our singles players have been very successful against some very tough opponents. Doubles are improving each match. David Ivanov is 5-1 at #1 singles, Adam Anastasia is undefeated at 6-0 at #2, and Jack Carpenter is also undefeated when playing #3 singles at 3-0. Luke Slater picked up a huge win in a tiebreaker in singles to secure the team win vs Madeira on Tuesday.

Second Step Social Emotional Learning
At LMS and across Loveland Schools, we want every child to be successful in school and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, students also need skills to take on learning challenges, make good decisions, handle strong emotions, and get along with others.
This week, LMS students continue with social-emotional learning through the Second Step program, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed to improve students’ social-emotional skills, such as emotion management, impulse control, problem-solving, and empathy.
Through our Tiger Talk, with the purpose of providing this information with our families, we will be communicating “Family Connections” regularly to communicate the social-emotional learning topic and summary as well as a potential question to ask your child at home to continue the learning and connection.

8th Grade SEL Second Step Family Connections
If you have any questions about the Second Step program at LMS, please do not hesitate to contact Kim Shafer, LMS counselor, for more information. Ms. Shafer can be reached at shaferki@lovelandschools.org.
