Math - Mrs. Harris
We also spent a lot of class time reviewing for our end of the year test that we will take this week. I have every confidence after the amazing growth students have shown in their MAP scores, they will dominate their end of the year test like the champions they are.
This year is my first full year back in 5th grade since the old Clover Middle School split and this amazing group of students has made it a year to never be forgotten. It will truly be difficult for another group of students to perform at the level your child and his/her peers have.
English Language Arts - Mrs. Coble
We are finishing our argumentative writing unit. The students have found their voice as they listen to and the many different points of view for their writing. This week we will be making a claim statement and formatting our writing. Have a great week!
Science and Social Studies - Mrs. Hubbard
This week we got back to business in Science. We played some games to help us review what abiotic and biotic factors are. Some of us are having trouble with them. Biotic – living things. Abiotic – nonliving things. We also continued making our ecosystem paper quilt squares and food chain pyramids. Students will be preparing to take a test over this information week after next. This week we will focus on more present-day issues in Social Studies through our USA Studies Weekly newspapers.
This week, students will be taking the PASS Science and Social Studies test on Wednesday and Thursday. Remember to get a good night’s sleep and eat breakfast both of those mornings in particular so you can do your bets. We reviewed in class with Mrs. Thompson how we will take this test on the iPads. Since it is on the iPad, there are some "tools” students haven’t seen before, so we explored those options so they won’t be distractors to us on the day of the test. Students have a line tool to help them stay on the same line of their reading, highlighter tool, sticky note, and magnifier. These tools are optional to use, but are there for students if they wish to use them.
I will be out on Thursday and Friday of this week. I have been working on my masters online through Missouri State University, where I obtained by undergraduate degree, and am FINALLY finished! Graduation is 5:00 on Friday! The 14-hour drive will be well worth it! I can’t wait to share pictures and my diploma with the kids next Monday!
